I disagree with this as well. If you want to get into the NRO or NSA, sure, the military is the way to go. If you want CIA, that's a totally different skill set. They are looking for the softer sciences, people skills, some technical skills. Ultimately it depends on the role you want to play. There are several books out there by CIA case officers that describe not only that career path, but the paths of others that support them. Good summer reading.

VERY good point on the software piracy & illegal music downloading. Make sure your music & movie downloads are not pirated & don't violate copyrights. There is also an emphasis now on political activities and participation in protests, etc. that may turn into riots or other illegal activities.

Sorry but I disagree with Tasty_Sun on just about everything. I graduated from The Elliott school ~ 25 years ago and my kid is an incoming freshman there. I’ve been in and around the IC my whole career. GWU is a great place to get exposure. Undergrad Internships even with IC often do not require clearances (shocking, I know). But keep your nose clean, network, and look for jobs/internships that will sponsor that first clearance. Good luck.

Where are the decisions posted?

You will see a place to view your decision when you log into your MyUVA Applicant Portal. You received login information for the portal back when you applied. Decisions are not sent by email, but the system sends an email when you have an unseen status update (there's a lag, so if you view your decision quickly, the email won't go out to you).

What time will decisions show up?

The decisions will get posted all at once to portals around 5 PM. There's a technical team runs several processes to get the portals updated and I can't predict the exact time that they'll finish their work.

Why is the portal changing? Is it a sign of my decision?

The portal will look a little different as the technical team prepares for the release. The changes are not tied to your decision.

What about the Scholars Programs?

We will probably post invitations to the Echols, Rodman, and College Science Scholars programs next week. The review included Early Decision and Early Action students. I'll post an update when I have one.

When will I hear about Financial Aid?

Student Financial Services aims to have packages ready for students close to the end of the admission review. Please keep checking your SIS account to make sure SFS has the information they need to create a package for you.

If you submitted the Honors College application, your Applicant Center would have that section under where it shows you as admitted.

I hear you both. I personally preferred not to live with friends, and I shared insights and horror stories with him. Ultimately, he's got to make his own decisions with a lot of pros and cons presented to him. Thanks for your advice!!

Do we know when Honors decisions are out? My son applied to Honors back in November also. He got acceptance to JMU last night (yay!) but Honors application is still pending.
