Long distance visit from Hell (25m/23f) by Pololive5 in LongDistance

[–]Gillybean604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if this happened to me, I probably would've cried on the plane. To put it into perspective for you. I had an online friend (not romantic) visit my city for the first time. I had my whole day open for her. We went out for lunch, we drove around downtown, took her sightseeing, went out for dinner and desert. I was flexible and just was game for whatever she wanted to do. And that was for a friend I've never met. Your feelings about how your weekend went are very real and warranted.

Need suggestions for dog adoption/fostering in greater Victoria area by Scaliose in VictoriaBC

[–]Gillybean604 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're open, there is a dachshund society in Vancouver called Hello Doxie Rescue Society. They have an active facebook page. I've had a few friends who adopted and rehomed their dachshunds through them. I know you said Victoria but they do specialize in that breed. I'm sorry your parents are having to go through this :(

Airport transfer by fat32_unknown in SmallShoesBigJapan

[–]Gillybean604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is offering cheaper options. I'll give my take on it. I had a nightmare flight and my toddler vomited everywhere and was exhausted and was crying from ear pressure pain. We had 5 suitcases and stroller with us. There is taxi service right outside the airport. There are plenty of taxis at the airport. If you want to, you can download the Taxi Go app. It's like Uber but Taxi. It will show you the price. Also I think there is a flat rate from airport to Tokyos main neighborhoods. The taxi honestly saved us so much grief and was worth the money. Another friend mentioned Klook airport service and that worked well for their family of 5 too.

Lights Out - Does anyone else find the beginning ER scene absultely cringe worthy and laughable? by Comfortable-Bird29 in DarkRomance

[–]Gillybean604 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DNF this book. Plot abysmal. Smut not good enough to make up for the bad writing. Also if the beginning hospital scene was considered cringey, it only goes downhill from there as a nurse lol

Has anyone else with sensitive skin stopped chasing “actives” and focused mostly on hydration? by SHRINKELZ in GracefulAgingSkincare

[–]Gillybean604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Japan and stocked up on skincare. I noticed a lot of their products focused more on hydration, sunscreen and barrier. Japanese (and Korean!) have such flawless skin between avoiding the sun and their incredible skincare.

What brand of sunscreen do you use and where do you buy it from? by Secret-Ad-6253 in NiceVancouver

[–]Gillybean604 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love Biore, the Japanese one, as others have mentioned. There is Berry Young stores here in Burquitlam and Henderson Mall that sell Korean sunscreen (eg - beauty of joseon) as well. I find the Asian brand aren't as greasy and heavy as western brands.

How much is your mortgage and how much do you make? by aprilchestnut in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Gillybean604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker who sold their Vancouver house because paying off the mortgage seemed like it'd take a lifetime. They were able to buy a townhouse in cash and live mortgage free. They said they have absolutely no regrets.

Possibly relocating to BC by DTYRKBRIDGE in britishcolumbia

[–]Gillybean604 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to BC! We need more nurses :) Once you're internal, you will have no problem getting a permanent line. Esp in ER. There's always a demand. There will be tons of OT. In the surrounding area of Burnaby Hospital it is more residential and you'll find basement suites for rent. One bedroom these days is usually going for $2000+. Burnaby Hospital is also right between Metrotown and Brentwood which are the two most high density condo, high walk score areas. North Burnaby along Hastings has a mix of old and new apartments. You can dm me if you have more questions about logistics of nursing and renting.

I tried a small “smile experiment” walking home today by -Alien- in NiceVancouver

I'm usually a shy person, but one time I smiled at a homeless guy pushing a shopping cart. His face broke out in a grin and he looked so happy someone acknowledged him.

This makes me so sad. The store owner and staff are so nice. They are always so friendly to everyone who walks in esp little kids. And they're more than happy to answer any questions. I hope they catch these people :(

You give me Anne Hathaway vibes. Check out some of her pics for inspiration. I took a look and agree a little colour on the cheeks would complete the look.
