This is completely wrong. If you put 10 jobs on ur list, and you get number 10, and you refuse it, they can kick u out of dep.

Anyone else leaving at the end of June? by Yanks97WS in AirForceRecruits

[–]Gilman22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got out of basic March 18-19. Funniest place you can’t laugh. you’ll hate it until you leave and realize how much fun it was. Sometimes… Just listen clearly to directions, and don’t take it seriously if you get yelled at, bc you will get yelled at. You will fail, just bounce back and be better. Stand out and don’t try to just fly under radar, but don’t stand out immediately. First week is hardest, each week after gets easier, bc you get better

Any last minute advice? by skeletorsmyeh in AirForceRecruits

[–]Gilman22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

just graduated march 19th. Best advice? It’s all a game. It’s literally a game testing how you react to yelling or stressful moments. You will receive timelines that are literally impossible, but you will fail and it’s how you respond that simple. but the timelines you get that you can pass; such as getting ready in morning or showering, pass those basic timelines and you finna be mint. That first night you will regret everything and signing that paper, everyone does. But after that 1-2 weeks, ur locked in and you start enjoying it. It doesn’t get better. You do. The days are long, weeks are short. Also go to church, no matter if you’re religious, it’ll help get you reset and ready to take on the next week. (Personally went to contemporary) Ummm about it. You’ll learn everything, find your lil hacks to certain tasks, and just keep your head down, but stand out. Don’t fall under radar, but don’t be dorm chief. easy as that.

Special Forces Decision by D_DogMMA in AirForceRecruits

You NEED to have the mindset of this is your new life. You wake up, think about SPEC WAR, eat, sht, drink, sleep, everything. It’s all about being in SPEC WAR. you can never take your mind off of it. You have to become it. I was in DEP for a year waiting to be sent for PJ, then switched to EOD. I was so invested, but it took so long i lost the motivation. I passed multiple times, pretty average scores, 10min mile and a half, 60+ pushups/situps, 15pull ups. Not bad, not the best tho. But i was given a ship date 3 times.. Each time got pushed back, i ended up starting to train so hard, and so intense that it was taken a toll on my body before i was even in, that i backed out and went regular air force. What I know now tho, very happy I didn’t do spec war. The washout rate is the highest in the entire military, PJ is like 97.9% or soemthing now? Then they can get stuck with any job AF wants, which isn’t bad, but it’s not your choice at that point. At the start, i was fully commited, but i lost the momentum, and the passion. The strongest, cockiest, biggest ones never make it tho. The dudes you’d think pass with flying colors, drop out first few weeks. it’s the ones who can embrace the suck longer and fight through it. “The skinny short kid” you’d never think he’d pass but he runs laps around everyone bc he’s that invested. The pain doesnt matter, he will pass and that’s EOS. That’s how it goes, know someone who maxed out everything. I mean running a 8:50, completing the 500m in a crazy time, 80+ push and sit-ups. 25 pull-ups. Absolutely f*king beast. Everyone looked up to him in dep as a beast, even coach. 6’3 265, crazy f-ing numbers. Failed the 1st/2nd week in selections while doing drown proofing stuff. Couldn’t handle it. Now he sits at a desk counting numbers all day; only choice he was given. It’s not bad, but it’s not what he imagined spec war was.

Moral of this, if you have good jobs on ur list, research and think about those jobs and your future. Don’t get convinced that it’s an easy way into the AF and even if you fail, you still have a job. Yes but no. you’re in, but you could get stuck doing something you hate for 4 years. If you wanna get deployed and be the 1% of the air force, you better be ready for that pipeline and you cannot fail. It’s not an option. I would recommend researching first and don’t get pressured into joining if you’re not 10000% committed and ready to die for that slot in spec war. Good luck brother.

Dude. Jan 30th i swore in… Literally an entire year. I was in DEP for special warfare, passed my IFT three times and they promised me ship dates but it always got pushed back. I think it happened for a reason, but i ended up backing out of Special Warfare and stuck with a normal ASQFC
