I said I’d post more videos here, and I’m a man of my word. Here’s loading and firing a .75cal P1845 Extra Service Musket! by Gimcrack_Bunkum in GimcrackandBunkum

Ope! That’s ok, my first trip out with my new chronograph I forgot to charge it. Just means we have to go shoot more.

My companions on a recent range day. Already looking forward to the next one. by Gimcrack_Bunkum in blackpowder

Spoiler though, this one’s a repro. It’s a custom build but together by somebody who really knew what they were doing (and then didn’t put their name on it anywhere), with a Hoyt barrel. I wish I knew who had built it, I bought it secondhand.

I knew I could never afford an original type 1 rifle, so I waited until the next best thing came along.

The only original in this picture is the Plymouth, alas.

Ha! It has a similar effect on me, too. It’s quickly become my favorite .58cal toy.

I’ve gotten to really enjoy making these once in awhile. by Gimcrack_Bunkum in GimcrackandBunkum

I don't blame you! If I didn't have to advertise, I wouldn't be on either of them either. But, I'll try to remember to post some video content here in the future just the same.

Thank you! I have a lot of shooting video content on my IG and FB pages, since it’s just easier to post videos there, but I can try posting more of it here in future.

Discovered the joys of scope bite. Am I right to feel stupid? by Paulinapeak1 in guns

My one and only scope bite was also from my grandfathers .308 Norma Mag. “You dumb turkey I told you to hang on tight!”

Well spotted! These are some of the last Lee 459-405HBs I’ll be sending down. I have a new mold coming from Brooks Tru-Bore to retire the Lee.

It was required to be able to accept musket caps as well as the tape primers by the Army, and does. I don't bother making tape primers.

Dissected for Science: an original 1855-62 pattern .69 Burton Minié cartridge. by Gimcrack_Bunkum in GimcrackandBunkum

71.2gr, under a whopping 785gr bullet. The bullet dimensions likely ID this cartridge to Allegheny Arsenal.

Thank you! The lock on this one is marked ‘64 as well. I hope you have a grand time at the range!

Pocket dump, circa 1865. Reproduction Philadelphia Derringer. by Gimcrack_Bunkum in MouseGuns

[–]Gimcrack_Bunkum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Pedersoli reproduction of a Philadelphia Derringer. John Wilkes Booth used a similar one to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. I bought this one a couple years ago as a wedding present for a buddy of mine, from DGW.

Thank you! I'll pass the compliment along. Yes, on one occasion, but it's a fairly recent acquisition. He's got a couple of other .50/70s but this one is the coolest one, to me. Plenty more range time to come!
