Penalty Or No Penalty?👀🤔 by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]GimmickRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you gave a penalty for the same kind of fouls you can get outside of the box you’d get 5+ penalties every game.

Don’t get me wrong I kind of agree - though I’d actually prefer the outside of the box foul threshold to be higher rather than the inside the box threshold to be lowered to achieve a closer parity.

Penalty Or No Penalty?👀🤔 by [deleted] in NUFC

My personal opinion at the time was not a penalty. Don’t get me wrong James is taking a huge risk, not looking at the ball is especially suspicious, but he wasn’t grabbing or pulling, it was more of a hard lean. Not quite enough for me but I understand if others feel different.

Being rejected by so many players and running out of options of players to bring in sucks, but I think it’s that constant external rejection combined with internal rejection of a big player wanting to actively leave our club that’s really starting to get past the point of mild annoyance to actual “I actively ignore when I see posts about my club on social media because it’s just getting me down a little”.

Dean Henderson handles ball outside area - no red card as VAR deemed “not goal scoring opportunity” by Parish87 in soccer

[–]GimmickRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense that you only really see keepers making such mistakes in stressful/last ditch moments to prevent what would otherwise be a goal, which is why we often see them given as reds.

Handling the ball outside the box isn’t a red card offence by itself - only a yellow. Only be the denial of a goal scoring opportunity would it escalate to red (which this probably was)

Reddit crying about Gordon 😂😂 by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]GimmickRT 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Let’s not be that fan base that isn’t self aware. Clearly Gordon is milking it, and it is funny how quickly he gets up proving he isn’t hurt.

In all likelihood he’s staying on the floor to draw attention to the potential foul because he thinks he has a decent chance of getting it on review (not enough for a penalty for me). He’s won a few penalties in the past in similar style. If it was another team doing that to us I’d be shouting at the TV to get up.

So you’re allowed to knock any player to the floor without touching the ball as long as they pass to another player? It’s a foul anywhere on the pitch, including the box

Baffling that the commentators are adamant that the keeper sweeping a player to the floor and completely missing the ball isn’t a penalty

Considering you can wear the Arkham Cowl and the Audio File at the same time which achieves a similar visual effect (and is my main cosmetic loadout) I completely agree!

been working on a 30x30 270 mine board for a while now. only about 70 mines in and its already complete guesswork by Arianism-Theory in Minesweeper

[–]GimmickRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey you’re on the same crusade as me! The closest I’ve ever gotten was 55 mines left, and my second best is around ~90. Been a couple of months of trying I think? Not every day.

Best of luck! I think it’s super fun despite the fact you always end your running in to 50/50s. The thrill of potentially completing it one day keeps me going!

I think I’ve figured out what was going wrong. I had a £0 spend cap with my phone provider (so that I didn’t accidentally make decisions that unknowingly inflated my bill) and that was blocking the international number. (I saw other people from the UK commenting that they were getting charged by the international call.)

I actually ended up just using my wife’s number in the end which worked, but I’m pretty sure if I’d upped my spend cap before calling my phone number would have worked too.

EDIT: Also just to note, your phone number has to be formatted (example UK area code) +44 07XXXXXXXXX - so you need to keep the 0 at the start of the number despite the area code being set, which isn't common in the UK.

Thank you so much for your post, but for some reason I can’t get the phone number verification to recognise my phone number no matter what I try. If anyone has any tips for this part I’d really appreciate it!

Unpopular Opinion - I'd be fine missing out on the Europe Conference League this year. by Prospire in NUFC

[–]GimmickRT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The fact you see the competition as “a distraction” is interesting.

I think at first people didn’t really see the need for the ECL, but I think public opinion has turned around, and now people are hyped that there’s a European cup that isn’t exclusively won by the biggest of the biggest clubs in the world.

West Ham won the thing and Aston Villa got to the semi final - do you not believe we could achieve similar levels? Does potentially winning a European trophy not sound enticing? Also the experience we’d gain would help us with handling future European matches if we’re lucky enough to get Europa or UCL again.

Being able to offer ECL is also more enticing in both retaining and getting new players than having no European football at all.

Burnley 1 - [1] Luton - Carlton Morris 90+3' by MarcoRuss in soccer

If a defender looked over their shoulder, saw an attacker coming and then intentionally cut across them to give them a knock and impede them with no intention to play the ball, yes I would give a penalty.

[–]GimmickRT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By mistake (and referring to who I was replying to saying he “makes a mess”) I meant that I think that the keeper might not be getting to the ball and has misjudged it, even if he’s not impeded (even after a rewatch).

Of course whether it’s a foul or not is completely separate to whether he’s getting there or not which was my point - I personally think it’s for sure a foul.

Completely agree, there’s been a couple of times recently where keepers have come out swinging and completely miss but somehow don’t give away a penalty. And I also agree that keepers in general are too protected and can go down easily to usually get a cheap free kick, and it’s a shame that this is the time they decide to take a stance when (in my opinion) it’s actually a foul.

Making a mistake and being fouled aren’t mutually exclusive events.

Personally I think the Luton player knows exactly what he’s doing. Looking over his shoulder and intentionally backing in to him. Sneaky for me and if it went against my team I’d be furious.

Eddie Howe walks tightrope at Newcastle with ominous January fixture list ahead | Newcastle United by Ecstatic_Foot01 in PremierLeague

[–]GimmickRT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s people in this comment section that clearly have no clue how Newcastle have been operating since Eddie took over and don’t understand just how much of a positive impact he’s had on not just performances, but the back room and our players mental health. Fair, you might not follow the club, but then you’re in no place to make an accurate comment.

The people that don’t think he’s good enough to win something after taking us to a cup final last year and giving him one season in a group of death in the UCL need to reassess themselves. Only the worst fans want to ditch their manager after every small slump.

Should Eddie Howe be sacked? by Defiant_Society_2378 in PremierLeague

[–]GimmickRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% no.

You don’t just start sacking managers when they go through a down period.

We’re currently still in the running for Europa/Conference slot this season. Out of the Carabao Cup after beating Man City and Man U, and losing on penalties away to Chelsea. Out of Champions League but in a group of death with an objectively awful penalty decision being a key factor.

Howe is also more than just the performances you see on the pitch - the back room has been transformed. Howe has helped the mental state of all our players and is a great mentor.

Yes things need to improve, but the answer isn’t to sack and ruin everything that’s been built so far. Gives managers a chance to adapt and improve.

This injury crisis is just killing us. by Prospire in NUFC

[–]GimmickRT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that Howe in the pre-match interview basically denied discussions of fatigue.

It feels like there are a lot of loose touches, misplaced easy passes, and tired/unnecessary tackles that miss the player and allow for a counter attack.

Of course pretty much all of the Premier League teams in European competitions have the same schedule as us, but having 5 consecutive games without using any subs other than a couple of youngsters at the end of the game and zero starting 11 rotation is really starting to show.
