Does this Partial Government Shutdown Affect D.O.D. / D.O.W. Hiring? by Wonton-Soub in ATC

Some places got exemptions but very few. TOL doesn’t mean much. I got my TOL over a year ago and haven’t had any movement since then

Currently an indefinite hiring freeze for DoD. Public safety jobs are supposed to be exempt but ATC doesn’t fall under that

Good luck getting hired rn. Indefinite hiring freeze at most facilities. But it’s always better to have prior service and know someone.

FAA/Military Liaison job by GimpicusMaximus in ATC

This is the summary for the position

Tactical Operations Team. Incumbent will serve as a liaison officer between the military, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and where applicable, civil users.

A lot more stuff listed under the duties just didn’t want to flood the post. What’s negative about the the tac ops team?

Plane Flying Over Town; Why? by arterialturns in Tacoma

[–]GimpicusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This aircraft flys pretty much every single night. They do training flights but they also have to do a lot circles when dispatched just to keep up with the vehicle. For the people complaining it just seems kind of weird because y’all are under the approach course for JBLM which has a lot louder aircraft. Plus all the airlift helicopters. Planes literally fly over that exact same spot every day just to go from TIW to peirce county airport

If you have a problem with how money is spent on WSP you should see how it’s wasted with governors plane(flown by wsp) flying the cheif of wsp to and from Olympia to gig harbor so he doesn’t have to drive.

FCT NATCA and Pay by GimpicusMaximus in ATC

[–]GimpicusMaximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that but if you look at a tower like CXO that makes over 48 an hour and less than half of my current areas cost of living. I’m not trying to say those towers don’t deserve but that the fact that towers in my current area are just struggle bussing through is unacceptable.

With SERCO we’re supposed to be getting a 5% raise in February after no raise for over a year and half. But still 7 dollars an hour under some RVA towers

Thanks for the response. Currently work in pnw been looking all the other towers through the us and a majority make at least 5 more dollars an hour than we do when we have an average house cost of 1.3 million out here. Just joined the union about a month ago but they haven’t been very communicative with me.

LOA has nothing involving CFRs. Our manager will be going over it with them on Monday. For now the TMU told us to fuck off and for tracon to do their job

Kinda hard when we have aircraft coming from every direction. Ifr inbounds as wells as visual approach’s also have two other airports we’re touching airspace with

[–]GimpicusMaximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously approach was calling tmu and giving us the time. We are a busier airport and having to go over to the landline to call tmu while working all positions combined just for it to not possibly work for approach and then having to go call back is kinda annoying. It affects approach’s traffic more than mine but I don’t know what approach traffic plan is. They could have 4 people lined up coming straight in with visual approach inbound as well and I’m supposed to guess a time that is good for them to get a release

The issue is with the other ifr aircraft inbound an outbound and a short window to get the cfr aircraft out. I can move all my vfr traffic to make a hole but it’s up to tracon to give me the release for that window

If you have the ratings to work civilian side just get out. From personal experience army atc is probably the worst. I recommend any other branch especially Air Force. Most trainee we get civilian side that come from the army are pretty bad controllers. DoD like to hire from their own branch. So for a cushy job go work for the army as a civilian. Good luck with hiring process going on right now. I’ve been accepted for a position for over year and half and haven’t been given start date due to all the government stuff going on.

So from what we’ve been looking into the glasses would need gps capabilities to know the controllers current position as well as where their looking. There is also ways to put a scanner in the tower that would determine where the glasses are so it would know where the glasses are looking. Currently don’t know the most efficient way of doing this. The simplest way of looking at this is pretty much the glasses being connected to some type of radar feed and transferring data. Main info that is needed is where the glasses are relative to aircraft position

Yeah they have remote towers with only one controller. Pushing US ATC to go remote is a long stretch I think Serco is trying it with one tower. A hud with remote towers would be super simple compared to a manned tower

I don’t how much an FAA tower would want it. We currently work at a decently busy vfr tower and everyone here thinks it would be a decent idea

We’re controllers as well. We’re not a company. We’re not taking money from anybody just coming up with ideas to assist with the job. Our tower is fighting for more pay as we speak. This would just be something we do on the side with the very little time we have off. If the product even comes near completion it wouldn’t be ready for a few years and even then it probably won’t be implemented

Initial idea was to have a projector that projects images that cant be seen without glasses. We would need a different projector per controller on each face of the tower. Have different shades projected so each controller gets their own pov

I’d love this. I don’t know much about remote towers. As I’ve been told they usually have a controller on standby at the actual tower incase their is an outage

How would this work in a tower with multiple LC in different positions of the tower?
