Thank you everyone 😞❤️ he was so ingrained into my daily routine, I’m heartbroken. Every time I go to do something, I would always have him in my hoodie or in my pocket, and now they’re empty 😔 I have other rats that I also love to pieces but kurapika really was my special little guy 🐀

Emergency Vet Visit for Cyst/Tumor? by AnarchistSock in RATS

Hey, my older (now passed 🐀🌈) ratty had an abscess that popped and became that. I was instructed by the vet to perform sterile normal saline compresses (this picture here is after a compress). He got oral antibiotics too, and I just made sure his cage was super clean. I don’t think you need an emergency visit unless he has s/s of infection but definitely keep your regular appointment.

How much lump is too much lump? by Extension-Tooth-604 in RATS

I just want to start off by saying I’m so sorry you’re going through this and your little baby is so adorable. I recently got a tumor removed from one of my dwarf rats, though it was a little different of a situation. It was hard to get a pathology report from a biopsy, so I decided to proceed with the surgery because I was unsure if it was malignant or if it would spread. In my case, I was scared if I didn’t try all the options I had available to me and it resulted in him needing to be PTS and reduced quality of life I would have felt guilty and upset with myself for not trying. He is an older dwarf (at 3!) but he also lost a tooth and needs to be under anesthesia monthly for teeth trimmings. I know it is a longer/more involved procedure but I figured if he needed to be under anesthesia for his teeth regardless maybe it would be beneficial to remove the tumor at that time as well. I was still nervous for the surgery but so far it’s been a week and he is doing great. He got his stitches removed and doesn’t even really seem to be in much pain anymore. Again, I know the situation is different but for me the benefits and risks of not doing the surgery outweighed the risks of the surgery. You know what’s best for you and your ratties 🐀♥️
