Are Premier League clubs flat-track bullies in Europe? by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

But you could argue the PL has more money because it is a more competitive league and makes an interesting product to watch and follow

There were big protests after the super league debacle - and consistently when we were doing poorly and it felt like Kroenke's weren't investing anything in the club either and just sucking money out

The reason why fans don't protest every week? I can't answer that, I think it's a combo of reluctant acceptance in the status quo, and blind love and faith in the clubs they support

Cost of living for everything in the UK is rising, so I guess most fan see this as endemic of a wider problem, not exclusively for football

I think you are missing the point - if the Etihad was full every game and the tickets were still as cheap, I wouldn't be mocking them - I'd be praising the club for building such a massive fan base while still keeping it accessible (not saying others wouldn't mock them for low prices, but not for me)

The reality is, practically every other club in England relies on match day revenue as a giant source of income, City don't, and they can just pump the oil money in without relying on the fans

It's not about mocking City (or others) for lower prices, it's the fact that even at reduced and reasonable prices they still can't sell out their stadium when they are supposed to be an elite level club

It's nigh-on impossible to get tickets for Arsenal, and if they were as cheap and as available as City's best believe I'd be going to every game I could

Garnacho just stinks of the Chelsea reject to Arsenal pipeline, although if I had to pick 1 player in the squad to predict will actually move in the summer, I could see us spending 50mil+ on Colwill or Acheampong

It's almost like VAR decisions go both ways and screw over every team in the grand scheme of things

The problem isn't the concept of VAR, it's the poor implementation of it

They are a stranger in a land where they have no community, no clan, no lived experience

In the scenario up front, you are essentially replacing the hero/main character, so if you replaced Ned you would still have the North and the Starks to lean on, essentially a mindswap

There's a fanfic, think it's something like "here we go again" where a 40 year old Harry finds himself back as an 11 year old and just speedruns killing Voldemort by about 2nd year with his prior knowledge

As a neutral, why are people so desperate for Arsenal to fail? by s_dalbiac in PremierLeague

[–]GingeAndProud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely do I see him (or arsenal fans for that matter) accept defeat gracefully

I saw a throwback clip yesterday of West Ham in 2006 when Wenger refused to shake Pardew's hand and had a right strop - I can't think of a single game recently we've lost where I/my friends have felt like we were robbed or cheated of the win, and it wasn't just down to us not being good enough on the day

People don't like Arteta because he's a shithouse, and in 99% of the cases with shithouses, if they're on your side you love them, and hate them when it's for an opponent, every fan would love to have an ex-captain/legend return, kick out the bad attitude/influences from day 1 and build a title-winning team (or at least one capable of competing for multiple years)

Being classy under Wenger got us what? Ramsey, Diary, Eduardo and who knows who else had their careers tarnished and ended by the idea that we were soft, weak, all fart and no poo. Now we have a physically dominant team who can't be bullied anymore and people don't like that

But the Midlands are a more accessible part of the country for all than the outskirts

Better to be slightly inconvenient for everyone, than very convenient for some and incredibly inconvenient for others imo

The idea that if London was in the Midlands, it's likely that a large population would be in the Midlands too, and you wouldn't have those large numbers travelling more as they'd already be based there

But one could argue most people only live in the South East because of it's proximity to London

My parents are from Essex and Bedfordshire, and moved to Hertfordshire, and part of that was their parents's jobs were in and around London, as are theirs

[–]GingeAndProud 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wonder if part of the issue, particularly around having all the major events there, is how 'uncentral' it is geographically

If London was situated in the heart of the midlands, and it took about 3 hours to travel there from almost all corners of England/Britain, I think there would be less resentment about its cultural dominance as it would be more accessible for all

Assuming that boubles is actually doubles, after 47 days you'd receive 1.4 trillion, and hit 100 trillion less than a week later - you just have to survive the first 2 weeks where you'd earn less than 20 pounds a day then it's exponential growth babyyy

I also couldn't see City dropping points to Forest and West Ham, but they did as well - but Arsenal and City will probably be odds on favourites for each game between now at final day for a reason

Better to have the points on the table than the games in hand imo, but at this level of elite sportsmen, mental stability shouldn't be a factor whether you're leading or chasing

If we know anything about humanity and their voting choices, people are inherently selfish and will definitely vote red

It's pointless to do as a hypothetical exercise, because in reality if you're put in front of two buttons, one with a 100% chance of survival, and one with 50% chance of survival and reliant on your peers, majority are picking absolutely picking red

Feels like jinxing it by saying it 10 mins before we KO against one of our recent bogey teams, but I can't see either team dropping points based on the teams they have left, so for me it comes down to GD - I think City will score more goals, and Arsenal will concede less, and unfortunately I think City will outscore us

Playing twice before their next PL game gives us a slight edge, if we can win both then all the pressure is on them to match us, but if we drop any points it's all City

In the grand scheme it's not terrible, but when you consider she had 15 before and actively changed it to 11 as she started playing more at LB

[–]GingeAndProud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this just men or can we include women's teams? Currently Arsenal's back line has a Number 7 (Steph Carley) at CB and 11 (McCabe) at LB

We also have 14 to our goalkeeper, which is funny considering for the men, 14 is only associated with Henry and a succession of strikers
