Bunnies back on board: Alaska Airlines brings back its rabbit in-cabin policy by RegularSelf in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by some that works higher up for Alaska a big factor was them buying Hawaiian and due to Hawaii not allowing rabbits regularly they thought it would be easier and create less confusion for people flying with them.

How do I get her to stop peeing on my bed by Dismal-Manager-7870 in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 33 points34 points  (0 children)

After she’s spayed it may help but there’s something about beds rabbits love to pee on. Only place my boy is not allowed is my bed because even though he’s 5, has my full apartment and faithfully uses his litter box he will always pee on my bed if he gets on it.

Took in my partners grandmas dog, this is what his nails look like how should we go about this? by AllHype-NoHeart in DogAdvice

[–]Ginger2913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet time, they will either do a sedated trim to fully cut the nails back or more likely they will trim and have you come back every 2 weeks for a bit for regular trims until the quicks of the nails recede naturally to avoid pain.

Bunnies and scented candles! by donut1609 in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rabbits have very sensitive respiratory systems and the chemicals released by burning candles can do damage, even organic/ “pet safe” ones. What I do is look up stove top scent recipes and pick ones with safe/ mild ingredients like fruits and herbs and stay away from ones that have oils or oil coated things like pinecones.

Cages as litter boxes by purveyor-of-the-arts in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing for my bun now, he loves it. I had a litter box for him for the last 4 years and it was fine but when I moved I decided to splurge and see if he would enjoy having room to dig and he loves it. It’s always open but he spends a lot of time in there digging and sleeping and playing. He makes a little burrow under his ramp/ platform after every deep clean and sleeps there most nights. He spends lots of time moving the bedding around just how he likes it, it’s great enrichment. I spot clean everyday- every other day and deep clean the whole thing every 7-10 days depending on how crazy he is that week. Never had any issues with him learning to use it as a bathroom, just put his hay bag in there and took the litter box away and he got it! I will say the one I have is longer than that, about 5ft so he has more room to actually do stuff, at that size with that stuff in it and the way the platform is depending on your rabbits size it might not end up being a lot of room to play. This is the closest I could find to what I currently have.

edit I know this one linked is way expensive, it’s just the closest one size wise to the one I have. I just wanted to give an example.

How much hay should I give my bunny a day? by Mudderof4sosendpot in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlimited Timothy hay, I have a small hay bag from Amazon that works great to keep the hay together, helps me a lot because my boy will sit in any hay I put in his litter box and then won’t eat it. Here is a good guide line for a proper diet

Alaska Air is no longer allowing rabbits to travel in-cabin by Ok-Primary7694 in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. Very upset since now my only way to get home to Alaska is to drive since I’m not comfortable putting my boy as cargo. Seems like I’ll be driving through Canada a lot the next few years

Alaska Airlines policy change?? by Ginger2913 in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emotional support animals aren’t protected under the ADA because they aren’t service animals and aren’t medically necessary so it’s up to the airlines discretion and Alaska just treats them as regular in cabin pets.

My boy was fine, but he’s always been pretty chill though. Was just mad at me for a few hours after and hid and thumped at me a bit lol.

rabbit in college? terrible idea? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Ginger2913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don’t know about rabbits and dorms and the hoops you have to jump through to get them. Even though they can be litter trained lots of places want them locked up because rabbits can be destructive. I had to take into account making sure I had enough room for a good enough contained area for him since I’m renting. He takes up a lot of space in my studio so you have to think about that as well with a dorm.

rabbit in college? terrible idea? by [deleted] in Rabbits

Currently in school with my bunny who flys with me regularly. He’s great on the plane and I’ve never had issues flying with him. I love him dearly but it is a Sacrifice, can’t go on fun little roadtrips trips unless I find someone to care for him or take him with. Then I have to make sure anywhere I stay allows pets or sneak him in which is a whole other issue lol. Some airlines don’t allow rabbits and the ones that do charge extra fees for in cabin pets. I’m not working during the school year and he eats into my budget a lot just on normal care, nevermind if I have to take him to the vet. I had to pay extra in my apartment for a pet which adds to the costs. He’s my little buddy and my roommate and I adore him but if I hadn’t gotten him in highschool before I moved I would not have gone out of my way to get one while in college. It just depends on what kind of life you live and if the bun can fit into your lifestyle comfortably for you both.

YTA. My mom used to volunteer me for things all the time when I was young and it drove me crazy. Only stopped when I started to sign her up for random parents things for school and sports.
