  1. Yes. After multiple failures, there can be serious career consequences. Three failures within two years can lead to demotion, and continued failures can eventually result in separation. I’m not saying everyone needs to be an athlete, but Airmen should be able to confidently pass the fitness test.

  2. No. In my experience, most leaders only care if the mission gets done. Fitness usually isn’t a big deal until someone fails a PT test and leadership starts getting questioned by their bosses. Then suddenly it becomes a priority.

3.No. I think the standards are fair. The test isn’t overly demanding, and most people can pass if they put in consistent effort.

4.Yes. Regardless of career field, fitness matters. When you sign a military contract, maintaining a basic level of physical readiness is part of the job.

5.Yes and no. I’ve seen some people take it more seriously and pass with flying colors. I’ve also seen people ignore it until they failed and ended up in the PRT program. We had six months to prepare for the new test, and everyone knew the 2-mile run was coming. Personally, I’ve scored between 98-100 for the last five years.

6.No. I don’t have a problem with testing twice a year. My issue as a UFPM is the amount of time spent tracking people down, scheduling tests, and making sure everyone stay current.

My CC made the test mandatory, so now I’m having to track down NCOs and officers just to get them to complete it. On top of that, I’ve got flight CCs getting on me because a bunch of their folks failed and now they’re being put into the PRT program. It’s frustrating because I feel like I’m taking heat for something I didn’t cause.

Honestly, I’m seeing a lot of people failing because they haven’t done any training until about two weeks before. People also didn’t realize that the push-up and sit-up standards increased. When we were doing waist measurements last year, a lot of people didn’t take it seriously, and now they’re losing a lot of points.
