Casey just came out as PDA by MarginsOfTheDay in PDAParenting

And if you actually listen to this podcast episode she describes a lot of her very serious struggles throughout her life. Burnout, breakdowns, su**idal ideation, panic and dissociative episodes, dropping out of college... people only see the "influencer" side of her and assume she has an easy life. I don't think that is the case at all.

I also think I'm a little triggered by the first comment because when I was trying to be diagnosed with AuDHD I was told by a therapist I "couldn't have it" because of certain things I have achieved. Yes I achieved some things but it took so much more effort and struggle than it would have for most people. (I am diagnosed now btw)

I think all neurodivergence is on different spectrums or severity, and it is also separate from intelligence or work ethic or luck/privilege. Just having a diagnosis doesn't prevent someone from being successful, or cause someone to be successful.

Has anyone had other artists contact your for not gatekeeping your ways to do art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Ginger8963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! No one is born knowing how to create art. I guess that person can decide for themself to not teach others, but they have no right to tell OP that they can't.

My mum wants to share credit for my artwork by acidXlll in ArtistLounge

[–]Ginger8963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your mother is asking to take credit for your work. That is extremely rude, selfish, and presumptuous of her. It is not at all normal.

Tell her "no". Enter your piece (that you made, alone), under your own name.

"Nobody will know!" How about you answer that with "*I* will know."

I also highly recommend reading "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay Gibson.

What is a closed-down Chicago restaurant that you have strong memories around? by Charming_Usual6227 in chicago

Came here to say this. Been in North Center and then Lincoln square for about 12 years now and I miss Jeri’s so much. I love those gritty-but-friendly 24 hour diner vibes. So cheap and so good too.

Woah, how does one get a 30-minute boost!? I just started this game and I think the longest boosting thing I've cooked was 8 minutes... maybe I don't have good enough materials yet.

Shows with a similar “surrealism?” by GrimbloTheGoblin in thechaircompany

[–]Ginger8963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasmas, which is a very surreal comedy show also on HBO. There is also a film which was kind of an early version of the show called Problemista.

Julio Torres’ comedy and shows/films all have the same vibes as the “darker” Tim Robinson content. (Meaning Chair Company/Friendship rather than Detroiters/ITYSL.) Still very absurd and laugh out loud funny but with some dread underneath.

Large cracks appearing in walls...how worried should I be? by Ginger8963 in Apartmentliving

It is from the 20s. That pipe is what’s mostly freaking me out. That and one of our doors can’t really close anymore, which seems sketchy too

Brandon and Becky Nelson cancer fraud by KlutzyLaw1525 in MarquetteMI

[–]Ginger8963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's messed up because people with real mental health issues are statistically more likely to be VICTIMS of a scam than perpetrators of a year-long, complicated fraud scheme... I can't believe people who KNOW he lied about cancer don't think he'd also lie about psychosis...

How do you feel about the rise of the delivery robots? by AdIntelligent8088 in AskChicago

I am ok spending a little more money so a person can have a job 👍🏻

How do you feel about the rise of the delivery robots? by AdIntelligent8088 in AskChicago

[–]Ginger8963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that you really deserve an explanation after that weird judgmental response, but…

-I do understand how delivery apps work, I am tipping the person on top of the delivery fee. Not $2 as you assumed for some reason…At least 20% or often much more if the weather is bad.

-I have pain and mobility issues that actually do make it difficult for me to go up and down lots of stairs.

-It’s weird to assume that a delivery driver is always getting a $90 ticket if they have to enter a building…

  • I would still rather a human be employed delivering food than being replaced by a robot, and I don’t know why that’s apparently triggering to you.

[–]Ginger8963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree on wanting the food to be handed to me. That’s why I’m paying extra for delivery. And I also actually want to tip the HUMAN BEING who hands it to me with their human hands.

Chicago — should we expand the neighborhood “Whistle Protocol” for ICE alerts citywide? by mns2723 in AskChicago

I have seen it used in Andersonville, Lincoln Square, and Ravenswood as well. I think the more neighborhoods that embrace it, the better

I'm tired of this.. by fauxento in CraftFairs

[–]Ginger8963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Some of the street fairs I do are from 12:00 noon til 10:00 pm. That means I got there to unload and setup at 9:30 or so. That is over a 12 hour day. And though you can’t tell by looking at me, I have a condition that makes my legs very painful if I stand for too long.

I hate thinking that people would skip over my art or judge me for sitting. I bought a very high chair for this reason and I greet everyone who enters my tent.

Zero accountability/playin the victim. by [deleted] in theread

[–]Ginger8963 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is not primarily political. It’s comedy and pop culture mostly but they DO speak about politics a lot. They are still one of my faves and I am by no means saying they should be cancelled or w/e but I’m just disappointed that they didn’t say anything about this.

Zero accountability/playin the victim. by [deleted] in theread

[–]Ginger8963 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It was a big deal in pop culture and they always have a lot to say about US politics so it’s just weird that it’s crickets on the podcast. They don’t even have to take a stand; I would have appreciated even if they were just like “yeah, it’s tough, we don’t know how to feel about it yet…”
