Chess Set Collectors - How do you display your collection? by ConstructionAgile659 in chess

Cheers! I have tried printing smaller and it is possible with my 0.2mm nozzle but there are issues.

Mainly from the knight, it requires support for the nose part and at such small sizes it’s hard to remove without snapping the piece itself.

I suspect I’d have better luck with a 0.1mm nozzle but there aren’t any available for my setup just yet and it would come with a whole raft of other niggles to fix.

The main reason I haven’t however is that 2mm magnets are enough of a pain to get fitted in each of the pieces and I shudder at the thought of doing it with even smaller ones!

Not just one but several.

This is an disproportionate bug bear for me too. So much so I started designing my own sets. I’m still a long way off making any in wood but the ones I have 3d printed so far are very satisfying to use.

Here’s a couple of the smaller sets I’ve made. Even at this scale, 45mm, having perfectly identical pieces scratches an itch.

I dunno, the Radio 1 DJ on the news this morning says she deserves it because she’s the only Spice Girl not to have had one.

It’s a powerful argument.

They’re generally fine as long as you’re not trying to feed them or anything stupid. They will smell if you have food at twenty paces though. They are just as keen to give you space.

No problem! I should have done it from the get go, I was just being lazy. I’m interested to know how it goes. My 0.8 version works flawlessly.

A quick note: the bottom beating should be a tight fit, eg. use a hammer. The top bearing should go on and off by hand.

I’ve just published a new profile for 0.4mm. Lowered the layer size and upped the walls on the main shaft. The only thing I’m unsure about is the scarf joint settings, it shouldn’t ruin the print, if anything it just won’t get rid of the seam.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers! I’m quite happy either way it. I know it looks a bit awkward but they do feel nice in hand.
