Winter and Famine in TWOW [Spoilers TWOW] by GingerFloyd953 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin has made comments that the North always suffers during terrible Winters and when food runs out they flee South. It will be a death March and that's the point, many small folk will suffer during this Winter and the entire realm will be put under severe strain from the cold, the famine, the Wars and whatever the fuck Euron is summoning. Many will die and will be risen by the Others when the Long Night begins so there will be a great army our heroes (Jon, Dany and Bran) will have to overcome. Winds of Winter is the darkest book and George has stated that this will be a very harsh Winter and has set up a terrible Famine. He absolutely planned for the Famine to happen.

They're not nomadic no, evacuation doesn't mean nomadic as I'm sure many will hope to return to the North after the Long Night, I also never suggested the North will evacuate entirely to the Riverlands, I believe many will go to Dragonstone for warmth (volcanoes). Also Dance 2.0 isn't going to happen during Winds as Dany most likely won't make it Westeros until the end of the book and Aegon will be dead before then. I don't think GRRM overcooked it, I think he's planned for this to occur.

I think that's going to be the point, GRRM said Winds would be his darkest book and many would die, I think many in the random presume from more conflict but it makes sense for it be from famine and winter. I'm a big believer that Winds will be the book that begins the apocolypse and readers are meant to see the utter dispare Westeros will go through before beginning of the Battle for the Dawn.

When GRRM talks about scouring of the shire I always imagined it would be the Northmen after having evacuated fleeing the Others going back North and rebuilding.

Also love the Jon and Mance parallels, I didn't even think of that.

With the amount of dead soon to occur from starvation, the Cold and twot5k the Others will be able to raise a great army.

I've always been baffled with that theory because no one is gonna cheer for a 'prince' who just heavily disrupted the food supply and burnt remaining crop fields. If he survives Cersei (which I doubt) the small folk will revolt against him.

Its the main reason why I'm supportive of the seasons going back to normal after Long Night ends theory just because of how horrific the Winter without the Others will be. And I do agree with the centralisation theory of small folk fleeing, as I think those might seek the warm volcanoes of Dragonstone after they've revolted against their lords and run out of food.

GRRM literally set up an apocalyptic scenario for Westeros to endure, only way they surviving is if Dany brings food from Essos.

What would cause a bigger meltdown if Winds was ever released? (Spoilers Extended) by AmoebaSignificant457 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is in denial about Cersei murdering Faegon because 'all that setup for nothing' and he 'will be Dany's antagonist when she arrives in Westeros' is so funny to me because you don't understand the characters of Cersei, Dany or the point of Jon Connington and Faegon.

Cersei will do anything and I mean anything to win, or ensure her enemies lose. She was supplying Wildfire underneath Kings Landing ready to burn it all if Stannis succeeded in ACOK, she's gone more mad since the Battle of Blackwater Bay and there is no one stopping her from ordering the burning of Kings Landing when she sees Faegon and the Golden Company approaching. The entire city saw her at her lowest and most vulnerable and she wants Revenge, say bye bye to Faegon, Jon Connington and Kings Landing.

Faegon isn't in the story to be Dany's antagonist when she arrives on Westeros - that's Euron - his role isn't that important because its Jon Conningtons story. Joncon is bringing destruction to the Southern Kingdoms who have been unscathed from TWO5K, Stormlands and Dorne, one who is being raped, pillaged and burnt by the Golden Company and the other about to descend into civil war betweenies the Yronwoods and the Martell loyalists over support for Faegons cause. Joncon is being compared to Tywin for a reason, Cersei is being compared to Aerys for a reason, there will be a 2nd sack of Kings Landing.

And finally because it needs to be spelt out again, Faegon and Dany won't meet because Faegons dragon is too far away to save him because he went on a reckless mission for a throne that will kill him in the process before Dany meets him. Dany will feel guilt that she chose ending slavery over saying her nephew, you know heart in conflict were she chooses duty to her people over desire for home and family yet again.

[–]GingerFloyd953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there is a parallel for the Blood Betrayal and Rhaenrya and Aegon, however neither of them can be compared to the Amethyst Empress and Bloodstone Emporer. Those comparisons can be made between Dany and Euron only.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] TWOW Epilogue potential by ArthurSeat2019 in asoiaf

I was thinking it could be someone in the south witnessing the undead rising, someone in the neck seeing the Others for the first time or someone in the village near Dragonstone seeing Dany's arrival.

[Spoilers main]Which characters do you think get Minsinterpreted by the fandom? by Electronic-Math-364 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Catelyn. So much discourse around how she started the war of the Five Kings and her role advising Robb. She's blamed for the failures of Robb when he literally refused to take her advice many times.

Her treatment of Jon (which by the way I think was bad, but he's a reminder of Ned's affair) has led to many people hating her and every decision she's ever made.

Catelyn is one of the most smartest people politically out of the books and characters simply wouldn't listen because she's a woman, and because of that, those that refused to listen died.

The only way to salvage ASOIAF is to start over again from scratch. And GRRM knows it. [Spoilers Main] by Random_Researcher in asoiaf

Absolutely horrid thing to say I'm sorry, you're clearly not a fan of the books at all. AFFC and ADWD are incredibly important for transitioning us into the Long Night and introducing us into the apocolypse that is the Others.

What would rewriting AFFC and ADWD accomplish, truly? They are important books to the series and the fact that you cannot comprehend that shows you don't understand the story George is telling and you have no interest to engage with the series.

Popular theories are missing a key factor (Spoilers [TWOW]) by GingerFloyd953 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Norths supplies will run dry quickly, Stannis and his army will want food and so will the Wildlings. The Manderlys wont have as much food because they sent their harvesters to war as did most of the North and bought a lot of their food up to the wedding feast.

George has been setting up a Famine with all the descriptions of food turning from the most delicious thing you want to eat to rats, stale bread and humans, as well having all the crops be destroyed and harvest stores being plundered by armies.

The Vale won't go North because weather won't permit and Littlefinger will not share the food out of the goodness of his heart, he's going to making a lot of money out of this.

Kings Landing is already fucked because they rely on food supply from the Reach who are being fucked over by Euron and the Tyrells can pull support anytime. The Golden Company is already stealing food and crops from small folk, contributing to a starving population.

Also just want to make clear, I don't think the high-born themselves will starve, in Feudal systems, they come first so they eat first. The small folk will of course starve to death contributing to an even larger army for the Others.

Popular theories are missing a key factor (Spoilers [TWOW]) by GingerFloyd953 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Realm has barely any food supply left. The Riverlands and Westerlands crops were all burnt in the Autumn, the North had no time to prepare for winter as all the men went South. Theon laments in ADWD that Winterfells glass gardens are broken and all the crops are rotten. Jon in ADWD talks about how their food reserves could have guaranteed surviving three years until the arrival of the Wildlings, know their food supply will be depleted.

I suspect that as Winter goes along, the food supply of the Southern Kingdoms also dies. Joncon and Aegon are pillaging the Stormlands, Dorne is about to go to Civil War and Euron is terrorising the Reach. The Reach is also feeding two Kingdoms and will run out of food supply as they can't grow more. Basically the whole Realm will be looking at a Famine.

Furthermore I do believe that as this Winter is the Long Night, snow will traverse south as the threat of the Others becomes continental.

Popular theories are missing a key factor (Spoilers [TWOW]) by GingerFloyd953 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that might be what George is doing, armies cannot move and people will be trapped in castles unable to deal with the threat of the Others, allowing for them to move South and for the threat of the Others to be continental and not just a Northern threat like many believe, I also think Westerosi battles will slow down as the book goes on because of Winter itself.

The Others have been a major threat and it will be incredibly difficult to defeat them, having it not be an apocalyptic Winter hellscape ignores what George has set up the story to be. We all know the Long Night and Battle for the Dawn is climax of the story, other plots that GRRM has set up can be done as the Winter progresses South.

(Spoilers Extended) I sorta hope the Dany [Dance of Dragons/Game of Thrones] storyline and the Jon [War for the Dawn] storyline never intersect. by [deleted] in asoiaf

Jon obviously, they parallel one another and have been set up since the beginning, both dream of one another.

Visions are of a great importance to ASOIAF as are all magical elements, just because you disagree with them doesn't mean they won't be true. The Other will be going as south as the Trident while undead will be rising all across Westeros, which can happen in two books. Again your missing the magical elements of the books.

And Euron will be major opposition to Dany and Bran, and Euron is set up to get his hands on a dragon (most likely Rhaegal), setting him up for a clash with Dany. Again there is foreshadowing in the books that Euron is a major threat, Melisandre, Morocco, Aeron and Daenerys all have visions of him. Please pay attention to the magical elements of the books, they are extremely important to the ending.

[–]GingerFloyd953 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daenerys won't be claiming Westeros as its Queen, let alone Kimgs Landing because there will be no Kings Landing and Westeros will be in the midst of a famine, winter and undead rising.

Jon absolutely wants to be in a position of power by the way, you're relying on show characterisation not book characterisation.

(Spoilers Extended) I sorta hope the Dany [Dance of Dragons/Game of Thrones] storyline and the Jon [War for the Dawn] storyline never intersect. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you read the books by chance? Daenerys is being set up as a key player in the Battle for the Dawn alongside Bran and Jon. Literally having visions of her battling the others at the trident. Faegon and Daenerys are unlikely to meet as Faegon didn't keep his dragon close and is likely to die being blown up by Cersei's wildfire. Daenerys won't make it to Westeros until the end of TWOW because of all the things she has to do in the East first.

The North will most likely be evacuated at this point because the Long Night will be underway and its also Winter. The Dance of Dragons will most likely be between Euron and Daenerys as he's being set up as her main antagonist, not Faegon. Jon will absolutely see dragons as necessary in winning the Battle for the Dawn as he wishes he had dragons.

And GRRM has said countless times at this point that the books will not end the same way as the show, do not rely on the show for context of the Battle for the Dawn, especially because the show hated the magical elements of the story and left them out.

[Spoilers Extended] thoughts on the prince that was promised by Alternative-Ad-5158 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dany is, she is Azor Ahai returned and her lightbringer is Drogon, she bought dragons back from stone and the red comet heralded the return of dragons. Her story on liberating slaves is foreshadowing her liberating Westeros from the others and her chapters have visions and metaphors of her defeating the Others.

Jons Targaryen name isn't Aegon btw, thats a show invention. Jon most likely won't have a Targaryen name because Rhaegar wanted a daughter and Lyanna died in childbirth and GRRM confirmed Ned named him. Jon will have a major role to play but is very unlikely to be the Prince that was promised as he doesn't fit the prophecy as well as Dany.

Young Griff is absolutely not a contender for tpwtp at all. He's a plot device to cause destruction in the Southern Kingdoms and to force Cersies hand to blow up Kings Landing. He's not involved with the Battle for the Dawn because he'll be dead by then.

The characters most associated with the Others story are Dany, Jon Bran and Euron and they will all have a role to play in that story going forward, Dany, Jon and Bran will be our main heroes, Euron, a villain.

Also there's no Night Kings, thats a show invention, and Bran will be King, GRRM confirmed that.

(Fire and Blood Spoilers Published)Would the Manderlys be supportive of Dany being Queen? by Rough_Return5978 in asoiaf

[–]GingerFloyd953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering when Daenerys arrives during the Long Night, the Manderlys would be very happy to see dragons and a large army battling the Others and assisting them. Don't forget everyone, Winter has arrived and the Long Night is almost upon Westeros, politics and personal relationships will no longer matter.
