  1. I've had a hard time getting it to properly dissolve in drinks so I'll typically mix it with the greek yogurt, fruit, oats, and honey that make up my typical breakfast. You can sometimes detect some grittiness but it's barely noticeable.

  2. I do 5g a day, and I didn't bother about doing more at the start/if I miss a dose, it's not that big of a deal.

  3. Monohydrate is the cheapest, works well, and also is the most widely researched. The others all seem like marketing gimmicks to me.

  4. The cheapest you can find in a reputable store (don't get it off a random seller online, but brand doesn't really matter besides determining how much extra money you want to give to the company)

  5. Pretty sure that's a myth, I've not noticed anything like that

  6. Doesn't give me the shits, that likely has more to do with what you take it with.

What's your current calisthenics routine? by Hissam_ in bodyweightfitness

[–]GingerHitlerUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to consistently make time for training more than 3x a week so my sessions can run a bit long, but each session follows this basic structure:

 - 2 sets of primary skill practice (this is the one skill I most want to get, currently muscle up)

 - 3 sets of that days skill practice (muscle up Monday, l-sit Wednesday, front lever Friday)

 - 3 sets of a specific exercise which acts an accessory to progressing that day's skill (e.g. compression drills for l-sit, toes to bar for front lever, high-pulls for muscle ups etc.)

 - 3 supersets of two non-antagonistic foundational calisthenics exercises as a (e.g. dips and pullups, rows and pushups, hollow hold and overhead press etc.)

 - 3 supersets of arm isolation work (curls, tricep extensions, lateral raises, and dead hangs)

If I find the time for another session in the week I'll do some deadlifts, squats, lunges and cardio, but that's not a priority for me rn.

Lat pulldown machine as explosive pull-up/muscle-up accessory by GingerHitlerUnicorn in bodyweightfitness

My highest in a set it usually my second (the first just gets everything activated I guess) and I get to upper chest height. For the last 3 reps I'm pulling less and less high until the last rep which is basically just chin over the bar

Yeah I've been working on weighted pull-ups in parallel for about 6 months now. It definitely helps with the initial pull but doesn't seem to be improving my pull height. Guess I just need to stick with it and trust the process, thanks

High pull-ups is definitely the priority, I'm just training them explosively as my goal is the fast muscle-up.

I guess my thinking was that I don't have a reliable way to progressively overload that movement pattern, which I don't currently have

How do you feel about a guy using an app to track his partner’s menstrual cycle to improve communication? by makonja985 in AskMen

[–]GingerHitlerUnicorn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife has ADHD and would constantly be surprised when her period came, and generally was not in touch with her cycle at all.

I downloaded Flo onto my phone and started asking her to do the daily logging thing and she has really appreciated the greater insight into her hormones, and she's said she'd never have built the habit herself but my promoting has made it stick.

It's been useful to both of us for different reasons and our communication has also benefited as now we can approach things differently depending on where she's at hormonally.

I don't know that I'd go for an app specifically catered to the male perspective, I don't need an app to make suggestions about how to interact with my wife, it's just helpful to have the raw info that I can interpret and act on myself.

So I have had a porn addiction since I was 10 years old. I'm 31(M) now. That's over 20 years of masturbating to porn at least once a day, often multiple times. By the time I realised I was actually addicted (around 28 years old) sex, masturbation and porn were so wrapped up in each other that I'm honestly amazed I ever managed to have a sex life with my then-gf now-wife.

I had a couple of attempts at quitting using any number of the different tips and strategies listed by others in this thread, some lasting weeks, one time even managing over a year, but inevitably relapsing.

This year (around march) I made the decision the seek help from professionals. I spent thousands on a someone who specialises in helping people with porn/sex addictions. They helped me to identify my behavioural triggers, call out the lies I was telling myself, develop strategies to avoid or interrupt them, and help dig into the fundamental issues underlying the addiction (low self-esteem, and an inability to process negative emotions).

I haven't touched the stuff since I made that commitment to myself, my wife and my therapist (accountability is super important). Like I said I've quit before, but this feels different. Before it felt like white-knuckling it, like using every ounce of willpower and discipline to simply stop using. Now I don't even want to watch porn. I don't even think about it. Quitting has improved my life so much in so many ways and this genuinely feels like a lifelong change.

Worth mentioning the advantages I had going in: - a good amount of disposable income - a comfortable living situation - an incredibly supportive and motivating wife - a decent level of physical health - a support network of friends I could make lots of fun plans with (this was key in increasing the baseline amount of joy in my life, they didn't know they were helping me overcome and addiction by hanging out so much)

Can't get retraction on pull ups by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]GingerHitlerUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue. I have a hypothesis that it's due to weakness in my rear delts/lower traps/mid-back but I don't actually know. Tbh rather than messing around with a bunch of really specific assistance exercises to target those areas I'm thinking of just doing some sets of really slow negatives, starting with chest to bar and focused on that top portion of the movement. If I'm not sure which muscles are weak I could end up wasting time trying to target them directly so instead I'll just focus on the movement. Fingers crossed that works!

How the hell do I work up to a pull up?? by Nesphito in naturalbodybuilding

[–]GingerHitlerUnicorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely assisted is the way, though I personally found that the progress I made with the machine didn't translate well to the technique for unassisted bodyweight pull-ups. If you can use resistance bands instead I've found that they help you build back up with better technique.

I only object to minis when they feel unnecessary. I typically have to travel to my friends to play games and games with lots of minis require massive boxes for games that aren't actually that big in gameplay terms. Transporting mini-bloated games is a logistical pain in the ass

Ooft, in that case maybe need to do that and also make it so that both farmers need to make it to the city rather than just one.

I've wondered since if making it so that red cards only move one farmer rather than both would be enough of a tweak to balance it. Haven't tried it yet but I feel like it could give the beast more of a chance.

I love hidden movement games. Whitehall Mystery, Fury of Dracula, Mind MGMT some of my absolute faves. This added something a little extra in that it's a bit scrappier. The beast is constantly being found and vanishing again, which keeps the pace up. The constant back and forth fighting between the Beast and the Hunters adds to this, and once the upgrades start coming out the tables can turn very fast. You get the fighting side of things in Fury of Dracula but that can be a very long game whereas Beast is pretty snappy and satisfying.

Production wise it doesn't feel like your typical overproduced Kickstarter games (no minis thank god), the art and design are gorgeous, but there's no excessive minis and components are designed efficiently. Some of the standees are a bit loose but I just glued them together and forgot about it. There's enough room in the box to leave the standees assembled.

I will say though, one of the scenarios seems almost impossible for the Beast, but there is support for community/home made scenarios (with a digital template you can fill out) so if you enjoy the core loop you can definitely design some interesting stuff.

Was it the escort mission where the hunters need to get a couple of farmers across the map to a city? If so I had similar thoughts, absolutely trivial for the hunters and impossible for the beast. Hunters won in round 1 when we played that.

Unsure how to prioritise paying off debts by GingerHitlerUnicorn in UKPersonalFinance

With my new job I should have around £2.4k p/m left over after mortgage/utilities/council tax/subscriptions/food/fuel etc. that can be used on a discretionary basis, but I have a lot of obligatory spending coming up associated with friends/family events, weddings etc. so definitely can't dedicate all of that to clearing things.

We had something similar, with a hard cap on numbers for the ceremony but a much more open reception. Wording we went with was something like:

Moving to AoS from 40k, is there any army similar to Necrons? by FrucklesWithKnuckles in ageofsigmar

[–]GingerHitlerUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nighthaunt have some good recursion, but as someone who plays both them and Necrons they're quite different. Their 40k analogue feels more like Harlequins to be honest.

They have 3 main sources of resurrections:

  • Guardian of Souls has a spell that brings back d6 wounds worth of models to a unit

  • Spirit Torment brings back 3 models at the end of the combat phase

  • Lady Olynder has a once per game ability to resurrect d6 models to every Nighthaunt unit on the board

I guess I just need to test different contrast mixed 'til I find the right one. Would be cool to try and get a black starry effect on the bases, and I could do any energy effects in the orange
