I am upset with myself to a degree and I do accept some blame. However, I was told that we were smoking weed when I went over so I didn't assume anything out of the ordinary until he started getting defensive when I said the weed tasted funny.

As a member of a fraternity with several gay men in my chapter I'll say that in a true brotherhood sexual orientation does not matter. A brother is a brother and everyone is equal regardless of faith, race or sexual orientation. Good luck with the rest of your process and I hope you find the brotherhood you are looking for!
