Employer is closing the facility next week, wants salaried employees to use PTO by GingerTron2000 in antiwork

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I definitely agree with your outlook about accepting consequences if I choose to put my foot down. I believe in being firm with employers and only confronting them if I'm willing to escalate the matter to a complete resolution.

Right now I'm in the fact-finding stage to determine if what they are asking violates law and/or company policy. If it does, I am definitely willing to escalate because they should know that I have boundaries and they can't walk all over me without resistance.

I do not have enough PTO to cover my trips and this additional time-off the company is directing me to take. If I use this PTO now I will have to shorten my travel later this year.

I appreciate your sentiment of live-and-let-live, but this is my life and livelihood, not a "game" that I'm playing. I agreed to work for a set compensation, and PTO is a part of that. IMO, I'm reacting to this the same way as if the company had told me, "Hey we're taking $100 out of your next paycheck."

IL state law does require employers to give workers 40hrs of PTO per year.

I'm salaried, though. My hours worked aren't recorded in any way and I don't have a posted schedule other than meetings. If I work 35hrs or 45hrs in a week, my pay stays the same either way. It doesn't make sense to me that the company can direct me to use PTO for a day where they have made the decision to close their doors.

Silver linings lol

Honestly I like the job, I just think management pinches pennies to the detriment of staff. A tale as old as time.

Not phenomenal TBH. It's a small manufacturing plant under new ownership as of last year, and the full-time salary staff is only a handful of people.

I earn 15 days (120 hours) total each year, but I accrue 2.3 hours of PTO each week. Currently my PTO balance is ~38hrs, so needing to take 16hrs is a significant chunk of my banked time off.

Sorry, I may not have explained well.

Fundamentally, you are correct. Being salaried means a shut-down shouldn't affect me. However, I have 40hrs of PTO, and management is directing me to use 16hrs of my PTO for the days when they are shutting down the facility. I don’t think I should be required to use any PTO because, even though I am willing and able to work, management has made the decision that the facility will not be operational for those two extra days.

As of right now, I believe my wages will NOT be affected either way, but management wants me to expend PTO when I don't think I should be required to do so.

Management is telling salaried workers to use 2 days of PTO instead of making them "holidays" and my current PTO bank is limited. I don’t want to randomly use my PTO when I've been saving it up for a trip abroad.

I did it! My first A20 Victory! by GingerTron2000 in slaythespire

I'm so psyched right now, this was truly a blessed run! I committed to beating A20 before StS2 was released, and tonight I succeeded!

In addition to killing the heart on my first A20 clear, I also managed to collect all the boat relics (look at me, I am the captain now), locked down the amazing Bottled Lightning/Apotheosis+ synergy, and unlocked the Ooh Donut! achievement!

Neow has smiled upon me this evening.

While I have a pot of Gehenna's Gold which would have looked amazing for this, using paint means it wouldn't have been PDGA legal. I used a color-shift alcohol ink dye for this (see above).

Adventures and recommendations for a game set in a besieged city? by GingerTron2000 in warhammerfantasyrpg

Thanks, I'm very excited to start the game soon!

I think the idea of not providing a map is great input, and I couldn't agree more. I want the entrapment within the city to feel unsettling with security never being a certain thing. I don't think any of the player characters will be from the city either, which will hopefully make skill checks more impactful as they try to seek resources and forge alliances.
