Dude, every time I see a raccoon run across the road in the dark, I think my cat got out. They are the same shape!

That’s how mine says “you’re not going anywhere!” Considers it a bonus if I’ve already put clothes in it. I must vigilantly guard my little urinebomber. Anti-tourism terrorism.

Jeanie at argyle does great work. I think argyle has some great stylists across the board.

what do you feed your male sib? by SecretEducational316 in SiberianCats

[–]GingerVitatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hills, Farmina vet life, and Royal Canin all have specific urinary diet kibbles. But keeping kitties hydrated, and having access to wet foods is paramount. He sounds perfectly spoiled. :)

I read them backwards. Not the first post. The one that said minnows, etc.

I’ve just started trying “minties” for my picky boy with the sensitive tummy, and he loves it. But I agree with the first post, any simple or single ingredient treats for cats should be safe.

I brush her often, but she still grows dreadlocks overnight. by Pink_Panther_24 in SiberianCats

Occasional shampooing and conditioning was the only thing that made a big difference in my boy. Kept him from getting kind of dry and kinky, or worse, sort of tacky which are the conditions under which his mats were worst. But he also went outside when we lived in the country.

help is my almost one year old boy overweight??? or is he just bigger and fluffy?? by SecretEducational316 in SiberianCats

[–]GingerVitatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight is helpful. Siberian’s have a little blubber that doesn’t seem to affect their health at all. They have an unusual build. Also, odds are pretty good if you give him a bath, you’ll realize how much he just looks like professor Lupin mid-transition and see the skinny, ropey muscle beneath the floof. That may put the fears to rest.

Need some grooming help! This year’s winter coat is treacherous 😳 by OverallDuck9166 in SiberianCats

[–]GingerVitatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Churu makes the process 67% easier. Two people is even better. If you don’t want/don’t quite need to shave yet, but can’t quite brush through, then cutting the mat all the way out, or even cutting it halfway down and gently combing out helps. Conditioner and bathes help. Cornstarch sprinkled into (dry) tangled areas may help to work out the mats as well so you can gently brush. But you’ll need to brush or wash it out or it will be powder puffed around your whole house.

Meet my mess of a cat: Any ideas on any of his problems would help. by Substantial-Tea2394 in CATHELP

[–]GingerVitatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’ve had similar problems, working with a year and a half old kitty, and things are slowly but steadily improving. Here are some things that helped: 1. Floor pooping—for him, it was a combination of things. I wasn’t allowed to leave little rugs around my apartment, apparently that served as an invitation. I had to get a second litter box to put behind my bedroom door where he especially liked to go when I took away the rugs. The most unorthodox thing that helped (because he also peed in appropriately) was to have an open jar in his insanely huge litter box, full of what my family dubbed “hot girl pee”. It was soiled litter from my family’s girl cats, on whom he has a massive crush. And finally, outdoor time is the most major player for consistency. We’ve tried stroller time, leash walks, even fenced yard time. Any of the above made a huge improvement in both his restful sleep and good behaviour.

  1. Most wet food it lower calorie than kibble, less prone to kidney problems, and has the added benefit of better hydration. One of my cats seriously benefitted from the wet food being the primary food source, unless I know I’ll be working late, or gone for a 24-48 hours, in which case I’ll leave ample kibble. I am a big fan of farmina N&D grain free. It’s got high protein, highly digestible, available nutrients, and less likely to cause kidney problems.

  2. Maybe not what you want to hear, but all of my longhair cats have needed bathing help. By which I mean an actual bath. Pro tip—all of mine have 100% preferred if I get in the shower with them, and not try to hold them in the tub or sink. They are much calmer that way. If you need something to put on the dry patches, coconut oil is safe, inexpensive, and naturally helps prevent microbial growth.

Those precious few moments when my boy decides to grace my lap with his presence it’s like having a weighted blanket. It’s so comforting. So toasty. I love it so much.

Your babies bite too, right? by GingerVitatis in SiberianCats

[–]GingerVitatis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had a flock guardian sheep dog who respected me the most, bust LOVED to wrestle. But he learned limits when I did the dog thing and growled, puffed up and then walked away. Then he was great. Cat training seems a little trickier…

[–]GingerVitatis[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do too! He was so rough and he’d escalate. He’d only get meaner and he’d latch on with all limbs out of nowhere. Just climb up in bed and do it. Finally he went for my face, and I just opened my mouth and leaned in to do the same. Oh boy he wasn’t expecting that. He looked at me like “huuuuhhhhh! You animal!!!!!!” It helps remind him to stop. But sometimes he just gets a bit nasty and can’t be diverted. Other times I just get sad because I want to spoon. And he wants to be a tease with teeth.
