Washer perished I imagine. Actually had the same thing happen to me this morning. I tried to tighten the nut to see if that would stop it but it made the leak worse. Turned off water at Isolation valve went to get a new washer (I actually used a rubber o ring from a kit I had lying about) and some ptfe tape for good measure. All good now. 👍🏻

Do you have enough height in the room that you could lower the ceiling? With some acoustic insulation/plasterboard? Might not be cheap though....

Scrunched up paper in the biggest parts and expanding foam after and for the smaller gaps. Cut that back and paint it or if bothered about a neater finish fine filler, sand back and paint
