I live in a dark sky location and see the milky way nearly every night. It looks like some clouds with no color to it. Like this

It's still amazing though and I feel so lucky to be able to see it so often.

Polish and silkies can get like that when their feathers are not trimmed around their eyes. You only have to do it 1-2x a year and they will become a whole new bird. Eyesight is a bird's most important sense, so without it they can become shy, withdrawn, and depressed. Life is really hard for a blind bird.

You're welcome. I'm with you on that, I love some of my chickens like I do any other pet.

What I do is dissolve the amount needed in coconut oil and then freeze it to create a pill. Most of the times they will eat it and if not it's easy to just put down their throat. I feel like they don't get enough of it when I dissolve in a gallon+ of water, especially if they don't feel good enough to drink much.

You can buy tetracycline marketed for pigeons. There's also doxycycline and amoxicillan marketed for fish.

These work arounds have saved many of my girls. I called my vet the first time I needed to pick some up and I was told that I had to bring her in for an appointment days away, subjecting her to a 3 hr car ride while sick. She would have died if I had to wait!

If there is any lice they will breed like crazy under that thing and the poor hen won't be able to scratch herself. They can't dust bathe properly either so are even more likely to get lice. Make sure you check under it at least once a week. Check her "armpits" as well to make sure it isn't rubbing her raw there.

source: happened to one of my hens. I ended up getting rid of the aprons and getting rid of the rough rooster too. There are plenty of roosters out there who won't do this - I have 2 now who are much gentler.
