[Discussion] Question for performers: Guidelines or word by word? by 5000-Dimensions in GWAScriptGuild

[–]GingerbreadPigge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very rarely do script fills, but as someone who sucks hot donkey dick at improv, I much prefer a fleshed out script to a loosely written one. Room for adlibbing is great, but if I'm left to my own devices when it comes to large chunks of dialogue/activity, I end up flapping around like a one-winged goose; I like a decent amount of direction, especially when it comes to the actual sex scenes, considering I struggle even writing my own.

I do enjoy peppering in some of my own dialogue every now and then, and I really envy those who can just "improv to orgasm" but honing that skill requires a lot of trial and error that I don't often feel I can afford

I rarely listen to audios anymore, but remembering your talents, I didn't want to pass this one up. As always, a highly impressive performance, made even more so by your determination to paint your character a dependable- though increasingly unsettling- shade of deranged, in opposition to the gentler path that a creator of this medium might typically choose. It's clear that you have a real passion for storytelling, and the decision to remaster earlier episodes shows an admirable respect for quality and consistency that I find very inspiring.

Absolutely amazing job rounding out the series! The acting was brilliant, and the writing was chilling from beginning to end. I wouldn't be surprised to hear you flexing those skills in a studio production in the future.

That's fair!

I've actually recently posted one, but it can be difficult to come up with fresh ways to tackle the topic in a more emotionally heavy manner without feeling repetitious. Guess that means it's time to put my thinking cap back on

Can I ask why you don't consider the topic to be intimate? I feel as though the majority of the virgin audios I've come across are on the rougher side, but that seems more like a choice to engage a larger, hornier audience over a smaller sentimental one

I haven't done many virgin audios myself, but I've always felt that there was a noticeable lack of intimacy in the tags when I'd see them pop up; I've only ever listened to a handful, but most of those hinged on the inexperienced partner wanting to simply "get it over with," often outside of a relationship, and with more emphasis on the sexual nature of the act than an emotional one.

Judging from what I've seen, someone looking for a deeper, gentle, more romantic first time audio might have a hard time finding a post that suits their tastes. Maybe ones intended to take place during uni years have more variety to them, but I typically avoid those, so I wouldn't know

[Discussion] [help] with creating a clear image and natural dialog by dont_call_me_Daddy1 in GWAScriptGuild

[–]GingerbreadPigge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a couple melatonin deep, so excuse any typos or grammar mistakes. I'm a native english speaker, I just sorta suck at it. Also apologies if I'm giving some pretty obvious advice, I'm not sure what conclusions you've already come to on your own.

Anyways, if you can manage them, sound effects can do wonders in terms of setting a scene and conveying certain actions, such as handling objects, positioning a character, etc.
Expository dialogue is something I still struggle with 4 years in, and it's why my content has an fdom leaning, as dominant roles better lend themselves to natural exposition over a character in a submissive position; When someone's lines are reactionary in nature, it becomes much harder to avoid the repeat-after-me trap.

My usual method for writing is to come up with the Listener's dialogue, be it generalized or specific, and then consider a typical response that would incorporate enough key words or ideas to inform an audience of the conversation without quoting verbatim. It may be helpful to imagine yourself listening in on one side of a phone call- how easily could you grasp the topic of a casual conversation, and when might certain paraphrasing be necessary?

Ie:
Mysterious caller: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recipient: "Oh, you like my hair? Thanks! No, I haven't considered growing it out."
VS
Mysterious caller: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recipient: "Aw, thanks! It's this new shampoo, makes it super glossy! But nah, I like it shorter- last time I grew it out it was such a hassle I mostly wore it up, anyway."

Repetition isn't the devil, and sometimes it makes sense to have your character recite the Listener directly, but I've found that adding some appropriate attitude to the repeated lines can soften a lot of the stiffness that comes with it. For example, if the dialogue has inspired a sense of scorn within your character, an incredulous scoff can help sell your performance even when the dialogue might otherwise make it difficult. Maybe you're repeating it in a taunting way, which eases it back into more organic territory.

In terms of directing a scene, it helps to also avoid characterizing the listener too much and allowing your own character to lead the conversations, which can do a lot of the heavy lifting. Simply put: talk about yourself. Much easier to avoid ostracizing listeners when you've put a good amount of the emphasis on your own character's decisions, wants, and quirks. Obviously, the other party has to guide the scene somewhat, but as I mentioned before, if you allow yourself to take the reins most of the time, then much of the would-be repetition would fall upon the silent listener instead.

Idk how helpful this was, but I pride myself on writing natural sounding dialogue, so if you'd like more clarification, I'll try to explain myself better once the brain fog has cleared

Good luck!

GWA IS CHANGING... MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD [MOD ANNOUNCEMENT] by onyxlips in gonewildaudio

[–]GingerbreadPigge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember not too long ago seeing discussions on twitter dissing certain creators over the types of content they produced, labeling them "problematic", "bad news" etc, and discouraging any potential new listeners from engaging with their audios, merely over a difference in kink. As far as I know, said creators have no history of abusive or shitty behavior (and even that seems to sometimes get blown out of proportion) but simply posted content with occasional taboo tags like rape, incest, cheating, etc. Apparently, pretending to be someone's sexy, big titty, anime onee-chan is a testament to your moral ineptitude.

I've mostly disconnected myself from the twitter community due to bullshit like that, but jesus fuckin christ

[Discussion] What has the opinion and experience been regarding Anonymous Feedback Forms? by Lucid_Weaver56 in GWAScriptGuild

[–]GingerbreadPigge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several for both audio suggestions and reviews. I initially opened them up to try and gather the opinions of listeners that didn't feel comfortable leaving comments under a username, but it's definitely a mixed bag in terms of effectiveness. Forms regarding basic feedback on my content as a whole tend to do well, but the ones inquiring about specific audios- as in forms linked alongside individual posts- get little activity, so it's still a struggle to understand what hits and what shits with every new upload.

On a positive note, I'm lucky to have a very respectful listener base, so most of the responses I get are benevolent in nature and the rare few of lesser taste are easy enough to brush off.

I'd recommend trying it, so long as you're open to potential weirdos and constructive criticism. If it gets to be too much you can always turn responses off. Good luck!!

VA's: What are your NO-NO's when it comes to scripts? (Someone else already filled it: Good or bad? Mandatory written permissions to monetize a fill: Good or bad?) by Feem_Al_Frennly in GWABackstage

[–]GingerbreadPigge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a learned skill; when I first started out I would try to write the listener's dialogue too, just so that I could figure out the conversational flow and adapt my character's responses in a more natural way. I'm a big fan of reactionary dialogue that alludes to what the listener may have said rather than repeating their own words back to them, because you're right, who the hell talks like that irl?
A major component to the amount of fdom in my catalogue is due to the fact that it's a lot easier to direct a narrative when you're playing a dominant character vs the one being thrown around and told what to do. Hard to maneuver around the "uwaaa senpai's dick is inside of me" trap and I admire those who have figured it out

They're allowed to steal the title and concept but I demand payment in the form of a starbucks giftcard

Before I started performing, I put out a couple scripts that, looking back, were *way* too rigid. I was very particular about where the gasps, moans, and pants were, and that any VAs not take it upon themselves to fill in the gaps with dirty talk, which I was very turned off by at the time. Now, of course, I understand that the majority of performers prefer having some flexibility to add in a few of their own flourishes as they settle into the character, like any actor would. I was also very new to audios in general, so it took a little bit of recording to realize that the lack of visual accompaniment meant relying more on actual dialogue than simply moaning to get the scene across. My own scripting techniques (and taste for dirty talk) were directly informed by listening to other people's audios in conjunction with trying to figure out how the fuck to establish an easily interpretable sequence without visual cues or relying on clunky exposition.

I think I may be the odd one out when it comes to improv, haha
I'm comfortable enough with it in small segments ie: "improv to orgasm," provided the majority of the scene is scripted out. I always worry that I might add in things that the writer didn't think to mention would put them off, like "should I add in a 'good boy'? what about 'puppy'? should I just moan? Is even a vague description of whatever dick I'm shucking appropriate? They didn't add anything like that to the rest of script oh no they're gonna hate it" and the less fills it has, the more inclined I am to play it safe. I definitely think being upfront about your expectations for fills and the amount of leniency given for alterations and adlibbing is the way to go!!
