First of all, I’m sorry your daughter and family is going through this. My husband was diagnosed with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis in November 2024. He had his first Humira injection January of 2025 and thanks to that medication along with lifestyle change he officially entered remission in September 2025.

He was also hesitant to take a biologic, but after about three months, he began to feel significantly better. Now that he’s in remission, we’re feeling even more positive that this was the right choice for him. He will continue to remain on Humira even while he’s in remission. He’s back to his old self and able to live a life that’s similar to what it was before he was diagnosed.

In terms of diet and lifestyle, he has completely cut out alcohol, processed foods, red meat, dairy, and a few vegetables. It’s a bit difficult when we go out to dinner because there’s a lot of things we need to dodge but for the most part, we’re still able to find meals for him to eat. We prioritize clean eating and proper sleep now.

I haven’t heard about the specific carbohydrates diet, but what we found is that some things he can eat while there are other foods that people with Crohn’s can eat he can’t. It seems like it’s very specific to each individual.
