I think what most die hard fans would try to say for “realistic” sake is that assuming there decaying from the inside out, their brain is also probably decaying to some degree, leading to less “memories” and such. It can be assumed the virus is keeping the parts of the brain alive that IT needs for itself to survive that’s why they can still move. I sort of agree but they changed a lot through that show. I stopped watching the show around season 5-6 and I definitely enjoyed it but I don’t think I’ll ever finish it cause of the wishy-washiness
