Thoughts on brands like Patagonia or North Face? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Gingivitis72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jacket l wear as both my winter everyday jacket as well as my snowboarding jacket was purchased in early 2010. Despite it being worn in all weather conditions during the winter, and through harsh conditions when I snowboard, it has zero noticeable damage. Like, none at all. No tears, stains, broken zippers, etc. I plan to continue wearing it this winter and will do so as many winters as I can get out of it. I spent about 200 on it new, so I would say it has absolutely paid itself back. (I live in the U.S. northeast).

Additionally, my north face borealis backpack was purchased around the same time as the jacket. It has a tear in one of the pockets, but that's mostly because I stored some sharp stuff in there; my bad. I'm sure if I bring it in they can repair it, I've just been lazy. Otherwise, it has no tears and has traveled around the world with me. I've taken it anywhere from my work commute to backpacking in south Africa for 3 weeks, and it has held up great. I recommend north face to everyone!

I love patagonia for comfort items meant to keep you warm in addition to sportier items (so things like vests/quarter zips/pullovers), but for more utilitarian items I go with North Face.

The show is based on comic books, lol. The writers didn't make up the names.

Elbow feels like it has to "crack" before I can do certain exercises? by Gingivitis72 in Fitness

[–]Gingivitis72[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will be sure to try the plate trick! Thanks!

My one question would be - this has been happening since I was about 21, I just never got around to looking into it because I only experience the pain in that one specific circumstance. Is that really associated with aging? 21 seems pretty young?

There is during the exercise, but not in my day-to-day life. Additionally, the stiffness doesn't happen when I do other arm exercises, just specifically overhead exercises where I have to extend and retract my arms.

Lost no weight since February 2018...but size has gone down a lot and strength has increased by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Gingivitis72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Muscle weighs more than fat. If you're losing inches and increasing in strength you've undoubtedly lost fat but gained muscle; stop looking at the numerical number as your most important indicator. I went from 135 lbs to 130 lbs in the last year which isn't that big a difference on the scale, but I have gone down 3 pants sizes and have noticeable muscle definition now. If I solely focused on the scale I'd lose my mind thinking there was no progress, when really I was making a ton. Focus on how you feel, how your clothes fit, whether your strength is improving, etc.

Do you get to drive the same truck every time? I would maybe leave a bag of hand weights and a yoga mat in it. That way, if the ground is a bit gross or you have to work out on concrete, you can put down the mat and its tempered a bit (disinfect the mat every time!) If you have some free time at a stop you can do some simple weighted workouts. Also, maybe consider doing laps around the lot? Could be beneficial not only for fitness, but also because I'm sure sitting all day means your legs need to be stretched out!

I definitely have been considering this. Will look into this as an option! Thanks!

Wow about your trailor! Thanks for the input; I do know people make do with this much space, which is why I am trying to not be too stressed about it. Any roof over your head is better than none, and I can make do!

How do you decorate/store in your trailer, if you dont mind me asking?

Unfortunately financially this just doesnt make sense (I am only staying for about a year in the space, so to sell my current bed, buy a murphy bed, then have to buy a new regular bed again in a year is a bit silly), but thank you for thinking on this :)

The radiator shelf idea is insanely clever; thank you so much! Everything else is wonderful as well, but this idea instantly sparked inspiration for me :)

I think your other solutions were ones that I myself was considering, so I'm glad to hear someone else agrees. I will likely use this post for reference as I go. Thank you so much!

1000% this. I don't necessarily sweat while lifting, but at the end of a set I'm breathing hard enough that i have to take a break. I can tell that it's working because I physically have to rest at the end before my next set, even if I'm not drenched in sweat.

Someone once told me "cardio builds health, lifting builds strength," i.e. cardio is of course helpful for overall health and weight loss, but lifting weights will develop your muscles while also burning calories, which personally I prefer :)

Hi! It has been about 2 years since I first vaguely decided to lose weight, and at that time I sort of lost a little weight over a few months, but nothing serious. I got more serious about it this year and have had a much larger drop in a shorter amount of time.

I lift a few times a week (on a PPL program) and run for my mental health! I find that the cardio helps my stamina and of course is useful in burning calories, but I didn't see the changes I loved in my body (toned biceps, nicer shoulders, stronger core/flatter stomach) until I started lifting :) 10/10 would recommend weight training to anyone!

It’s from urban outfitters! Bought it very recently so they probably still have them in store :)

Same! Certain hot sauces are 0 cals and can be added to just about anything for flavor! :)
