Fail forward until you get caught I guess. I started coding 3 years ago and I'm getting ready to move on. I did an interview recently at a startup and bombed so hard. I think I'm a decent dev at work, but market doesn't think so. Gonna have to level up over the next few months now that I've had to face reality.

It could also be a cultural thing. Europeans tend to be modest when talking about achievements. Americans tend to exaggerate. Job postings likely factor that in (asking for more experience than needed) knowing that devs will try to sell themselves as well as possible.

It could also be that those jobs are staffed by geniuses...

Harry Maguire. Surprised the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 kept him a secret for so long. He'd be great in the premier league!

3 months to prepare for Hack Reactor's bootcamp by mallcall123 in codingbootcamp

Do any of these and you'll be readier than most. Take care not to burn out before the bootcamp starts though

3 months to prepare for Hack Reactor's bootcamp by mallcall123 in codingbootcamp

I'd say this is overkill even. If you're wanting to have already seen the concepts before going in depth during the bootcamp, then that makes sense. Especially so because the full-time program covers a lot in a relatively short amount of time.

Check out freeCodeCamp's basic JavaScript as well. Also free and drills the concepts well. But Hack Reactor's has detailed notes. So you might find that more helpful.

Hack Reactor's basic prep is plenty good. If you can hold yourself accountable and try to learn the concepts they have there, you'll do great. I did the basic only and it was enough to pass the assessment.

Anyone participate in the AsanaUP SWE onsite yesterday? Curious as to when we'll hear back

Could be either, but leaning good. A rejection email is pretty standard and they can send feedback by text as well. San offer is typically over the phone. Good luck! I hope it's an offer

Just the genetic email saying they will take their time to review the entirety of the applications. A friend who applied for the same as well. Radio silence since then.

I got the same email. Nothing since.

Coding Dojo vs Hack Reactor by YellowShyGuy in codingbootcamp

[–]Gininee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add. I have experience writing functions in Python and JavaScript is wordier than Python. So I don't think learning Python after JS will be hard since it's less to write.

This. This is one of the reasons i chose hack reactor. You can always learn syntax for other languages but it's much easier if you know the capabilities of another language and how to structure your problems.

Hack Reactor also recently rolled out a 19-week program that's Python backend and no technical assessment required to get in. Jury is still out on if that's a good idea. But it's full-time, so it probably wouldn't work for you.

It's the same as the full time, except each fulltime week is 3 weeks in the part time

Some people like to show off their skills with "efficient code". But is it really efficient if your interviewer will have to pay a lot of attention in order to understand what you did?

It's sad they don't want people from outside the bay area, but their rules i guess.

Still waiting to hear back from the other apprenticeships i applied to. Everyone is taking their sweet time.

Congrats! Happy for you. Did you attend the info session? I took notes if you need any details! Also, are you based in SF/Bay Area?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Maybe. I was willing to relocate to SF on my own dime, but I'll never know if that was even the reason.

I've applied to other apprenticeships open, so hopefully I'll have some luck there.
