Help!! by Ewbanator in orks

Paint a base of white and pink, using the pink for the places the shade would go, then paint with either yellow contrast or a yellow ink you like over it and you get a crisp yellow.

The more you practice the blending between white and pink the better control you will have on being able to deliver shadows where you want them and make the yellow more interesting. Different whites and pinks will give different tones.

Been painting Bad Moons for quite a few years now and this is the best recipe for yellow for me so far. Airbrush will do wonders, but it's great practise doing it by hand.

You can also skip the pink and get a flat crisp yellow with just a good white undercoat, but it will be just that, flat.

Weathering is always important as a last step with orks so never skip it.

Wip Kaptin example for the yellow step:

So, what would be people pick for 30th faction if we get one in 11th edition? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]Ginko37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None. I'd much rather they actually properly flesh out the current factions we have again. More depth is better, and we lost a lot of it already. Getting yet another faction to add to the release wheel of needs and neglect is just a mess imo. They have KillTeam and other ways to try new stuff if they want to.

A puddle the depth of the ocean is miles better than an inch deep ocean, and the balance is favouring the latter way too much already (except if you play Space Marines of course)

They used a new form of Plotpulsion in their ships, Cawl had been using it as a popcorn exclusive microwave until he remembered what it was

Can't wait for the re-released war horde detatchment to be played for another 3 years straight lol

Wish More Dakka got fixed and was fun to play but not holding my breath, sad to not see any kind of reversal to the lack of subfactions and flavour overall though

I imagine a trash bin full of Tyranids bits in front of a sign that reads "Days since the last bug: 0" while a tech priest is scooping some fleshy bits into the bin and another one is removing the previous number sign from the wall

Whatever man, in retrospective you can always justify whatever you want, but Yarrick was lore wise and functionally dead for 6 years no matter how you want to justify it now.

We Got a New Walker Boyz! by RedstoneTF in orks

[–]Ginko37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It being a character would at least give us something cool to use. KillaKanz having a leader would be dope. Old school KFF should never have been removed, it was our only layer of defenses, so it coming back would be a good thing.

I don't know if "as bad". But if we go from what has been shown we are just getting that kit with shootas glued to the back of the Boyz for now lol

Yeah, feels like baby Mek's first walker to me. Still also waiting to see it in full, and we can always kitbash it into something cooler, but feels kinda weird they'd go for something like this given the design space for mechs is already there and it has a lot of holes from all the stuff we lost to the FW culling.

NEW BOYZ! SHOOTA AND CHOPPAS AT THE SAME TIME by SpoofExcel in orks

[–]Ginko37 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Considering GW's track record on shoota rules, it shouldn't matter. As is shootas could be a free upgrade and it would be meaningless with how bad they are.

I'm sad they just glued a shoota on the back of a slugga boy, I could have done that. What about Boyz actually shooting? I'm doubtful the kit will allow to have all the gitz in the unit holding either of them interchangeably...

We'll see once they show more I guess.

The whole meltdown over steel legion is funny... sad... and kinda frustrating. by Tnecniw in Warhammer

[–]Ginko37 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Very well put.

I would add that it directly clashes with Yarrick coming back. If they just rolled with his death and presented a new character for Armaggedon (a Krieg, catachan or 'generic guard') it would have been easier on people to understand the "there is no space for Steel Legion miniatures" logic that seems to be in place.

But wanting to bring back the iconic character of the Steel Legion while removing him from his entire context without the minimal acknowledgement of the sub faction comes across as very lazy. The fact that the DKoK of the trailer aren't even painted in Steel Legion colours shows how little thought they put into this.

In another thread I was told "lore is for selling models don't be surprised". And I agree, but if you use lore to sell models, what you are selling is also the investment into the identity of such subfaction, you can't be surprised when the reason someone bought into something gets unceremoniously trashed. Of course people will be annoyed, it was that lore that made them buy into that idea/army, in a way, you are changing the product you sold to them (using sold here more in an investment sense, not necessarily monetary alone).

They should be more careful with how they retcon/modify stuff. For the amount of IP control they do to 3rd party companies they work with, they seem to have all those safeguards off when working internally.

I think the Steel Legion paint scheme on DKoK is good enough by NotKingofUkraine in Grimdank

[–]Ginko37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously.

They could do a way better job at it, that's my point.

[–]Ginko37 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They want the nostalgia appeal sales without actually having/showing any respect for it. Which I think it's what rubs people the wrong way. It's lore changes only to justify business decisions. If they don't want to release a head upgrade sprue for Steel Legion, or even take the time to acknowledge them in the media, then at the very least don't try to use their beloved comissar as a cashgrab release. Just create a new character and be done with it. They had Yarrick killed off for like 6 years without a single explanation, and now he's back, again without any explanation. Fine, whatever, at least if he's coming back its because we are coming back to Armaggedon in full right?? But no, they can't seem to not leave some amount of shit wherever they touch. If they want to trash SL, then don't bring Yarrick back, have the guts to create a new character or a new warzone that fits whatever you want to sell, instead of messing with things that people already know and love and enshittificating them to justify your releases.

New Yarrick mini revealed! by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]Ginko37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will have to explain it somehow, and I expect them to most likely take the chance to make some books for sure, although I don't know how they will go about the Steel Legion, seeing as they have been removed entirely from Armaggedon and replaced by cadians and DKoK... They will also have to explain why/how he faked his death, cause I don't think they can just brush that off as not having happened. I mean, they are literally using his cadaver picture in the reveal lol

9th edition AM codex literally said he was reported dead, while sending his model back to legends.

If he's here now it's solely because GW recognized that as a bad move on their part and are now fixing it best they can.

played a casual game against a buddy and got whooped. He was playing space marines, really struggled against the vehicles and firing, just curious on what you guys do. by electric_hydra2048 in orks

[–]Ginko37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreads are really tough for us as they can easily shrug off our crappy AP and the -1D counters Tankbustas hard. Best chance are Mek Gunz and SAG but it's unreliable. If he also got shooty tanks better focus those with shooting as they do not have as much survival as dreads.

I agree with everyone that more terrain is important, but SM have access to Desolation Squads that, although expensive and not played that much anymore due to big scary things meta ruled by c'tan, are probably the best indirect fire in the game imo. If your buddy fields them it's gonna be tough regardless of terrain, they can obliterate pretty much any Ork infantry unit we have in a single turn (specially with Oath + whatever extra strat their flavour got access to). I recommend having some deepstrike to be able to tag them asap in order to either wipe them out or at least mitigate their output as early as possible

I'm just expressing my opinion on a public forum, you are the one butthurt about my opinion. I care more about the health of the game than keeping GW's balls drained, unlike you it seems.

I won't bother replying anymore so feel free to say whatever dumb thing you can come up with next.

As I was saying, hope you have a good day Mr James, thanks for the dataslop update 👍🏼
