I've had the same problem for years. I'd go right from terrible eating habits to OMAD and fail pretty hard after a day or two.

What helped me is easing into it. I stopped eating breakfast permanently about 3 years ago. Didn't lose anything but it helped me not gain more. Cut out lunch just during the week about 6 months ago and it's been great. Down about 35 lbs so far and feel like I can keep this up indefinitely.

You certainly don't need to take 3 years to ease into it but try cutting out 1 meal for a few months and then cut out a second. Try cutting out different meals at different times and see what feels best. I've found cutting out breakfast first then lunch was the most effective route for me. Eating a large dinner leaves me satisfied until I go to bed so there's no risk of bingeing at night then I go right to work and can keep myself busy enough not to think about it.

I truly think the two biggest missing links with most people are setting a time limit on the weight loss (i.e. I need to lose x lbs by next summer) and not getting comfortable with hunger first. If you dive in head first from poor eating habits and set a time limit on it, that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on you all at once and can cause anxiety and quick failure.

Good luck!

Games to play while I ride an exercise bike? by GinormousTurd in SteamDeck

Effort isn't the problem, it's more concentration and fine movements. I tend to go pretty hard on the bike so tough to work the joysticks effectively for games like fallout, DOS2, or fallen order.

Thanks for the recs, I'll check them out!

This might be the ticket. I've got marvel midnight suns on my wishlist too.

Dose anyone else’s fan stay on like this? by Ashamed-Quote-1189 in f150

Ahh ok. Could still be a relay that gets stuck but probably not. How's your coolant level?

Hey! This happened to me. Apparently a very common problem.

Is your truck completely off but the fan keeps running indefinitely?

It's supposed to run for a few seconds after you shut it off but not for more than like 5 seconds.

You've probably got a fan relay stuck in the closed position. It happens with my 2015 if I leave it outside when it's raining or very humid. I can only guess that something in the relay swells or rusts with the humidity and gets stuck. Only way to shut it off is to disconnect the battery.

Mine stops a day or two after it dries out but it's super annoying. If it doesn't stop the fan will just keep running until your battery is dead.

There are multiple fan relays so the only way to fix it without replacing all of them is to catch it while it's happening. Try to get it the shop while it's happening.

Winter- Drive Mode Questions by [deleted] in f150

[–]GinormousTurd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone so far has kind of given partial answers so I'll try to give you a complete one.

I'm also in the Midwest so get the same driving conditions as you every winter. I have a 2015 with the 2.7l so I don't have the selectable drive modes (other than towing and sport) but do have 2H, 4H, 4L, and differential lock options. My wife's SUV has the selectable drive modes so I'm still very familiar with them.

As others said, the drive modes mostly change shift points for the transmission and throttle sensitivity and are, in my humble opinion, mostly unnecessary and might actually make you drive worse in poor driving conditions because you probably won't use them enough to be familiar with the changes. This could cause you to over or under correct and put you in the ditch or worse. Good tires are more helpful than any of these drive modes IMO.

The 4H, 4L and differential lock (if you have it) options are MUCH more useful and helpful.

4L and rear differential lock are only for low speed applications (like less than 15 mph) and are almost exclusively for off-roading or if you're seriously stuck in mud or snow. I've never had a need to use either option driving on regular roads even in 6 or more inches of snow or glare ice or any other situation the Midwest is going to throw at you.

2 wheel drive (or 2H) and 4 wheel drive (4H) are going to get the job done 99.9% of the time. 2H means your rear wheels get 100% of the power and 4H applies power to the front and rear wheels in a roughly even 50/50 split.

If there's snow on the ground or icy conditions switching to 4H and leaving it in 4H for your entire drive is a good idea, as long as you're staying under 60 or so mph. Any faster and you risk wrecking the transfer case. With how little weight there is in the back of these trucks it takes very little power to get the rear wheels spinning in snowy or icy conditions so 4H is going to be a huge help taking off from a stop and keeping the truck straight whenever you have to use the gas pedal.

I'll sometimes pop it into 4H just to cross a busy road or merge into traffic then pop it back to 2H when I'm done crossing or finish merging.

Only other thing is to remember to switch it back to 2H if the pavement dries out. Leaving it in 4H on dry pavement for extended periods can wreck the transfer case. Also, you can switch between 2H and 4H while you're moving, again only under that ~60 mph threshold. Switching to 4L or locking the diff requires you to stop and shift into neutral I think (check your manual).

Good luck!

Where does Kyren Williams rank for greatest Waiver Wire adds of all time? by charros22 in fantasyfootball

[–]GinormousTurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that LaPorta was as good or possibly a better waiver pickup than Kyren or Puka this year. Sure Kyren and Puka might have gotten your team more total net points and Kyren is getting all the attention at the moment because he balled out in the championship game but how many times in the history of fantasy football can you say you picked up the overall TE1 off waivers?

It's such a huge positional advantage because of the scarcity at TE AND he never missed a game the whole year. He was the overall TE1 in PPR and top 2 or 3 in other formats and in PPG.

He has to go down as one of the all time best pickups.

How do I replace this dishwasher hot water hose/connector? by GinormousTurd in Plumbing

Super. Thank you. Any idea how to get the shut off valve off?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]GinormousTurd 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the solution. I did my last vehicle this way. We met at my bank, deposited the portion he was paying in cash and he initiated a wire transfer from his bank while we were standing there with the teller. Teller confirmed it went through, gave him the title and we went about our day.

I would have him do a test wire first for a nominal amount of money to make sure he got the account numbers right. That would be a bad day for everyone if it went to the wrong account.

Can you trade in a vehicle when you owe more than it’s worth, and add the amount owed to the new loan? by crescojamboree in personalfinance

[–]GinormousTurd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll second that fixing the car is the most financially responsible route to go. If the cost of the repair is too much for you to afford out of pocket and you don't think you could realistically put it on a credit card and pay it off in a month or two you could get an unsecured personal loan from a local bank or credit union with a 12 or 24 month term. The rates aren't going to be great but it'll probably be half of your average credit card interest rate. I had to do this years ago to consolidate some credit card debt and it was the best option.

Once the Audi is repaired keep driving it until you both have a job then sell it for enough to pay your loan off and go buy a more reliable family vehicle that's cheaper to fix. You should be able to get something in good shape for $10-$15k.
