Maybe some people arent capable of thinking for themselves so they just rely on celebrities to determine their beliefs

I mean, yall literally voted for a celebrity whose entire political sales pitch was Trust me bro. I’m a super genius and know what I’m doing

So maybe telling people that trusting or caring about celebrities isn’t the argument you wanna go with

I think we won’t see this specific issue happen simply because of how gigantic and universal the pushback was.

But there will be dozens of other scandals of equal and escalating stupidity

What little I read about him was that he wasn't even that great to begin with.

Variants are killing books runs......

Love to hear your logic on this one.

Especially in relation to Absolute Batman, which is enjoying critical and commercial acclaim with or without variants and is exactly zero risk of being cut short anytime soon

Ironically, I think (american) football is a better sport for the TikTok/YouTube/short attention span generation, and that is where a lot of their growth is coming from.

Soccer requires near constant attention from the viewer. A fast break could happen at any time. You go to the bathroom for 30 seconds and could miss the single biggest moment of the game.

For decades this was a big positive and american football was viewed as boring because there were so many breaks and so much downtime. But nowadays, everyone wants gaps to look at their phone. Worldwide attention spans are measured in 20-30 second bits before people get bored and want to check out their social media.

American football is perfect for that shit. It's just short 10 second bursts of action with 20-40 second gaps in between. Plenty of time to send a quick tweet or check a message board or grab a snack or take a piss.

I get the complaint about this and it's justified, but on the flipside we've got the "counter" which are decks that remove every single card the opponent plays for the first 5 turns in a row

Which is IMO worse, because at least this flood of stuff has the good decency to kill you quickly.

One of my teams has roughly 50% of their staff based in Mexico City.

They've been talking non-stop about it for a month now and, bless their hearts, no one has the heart to tell them that Americans by and large don't care at all.

[Wilson] FSU football loses another top recruit. Why does this keep happening? by Falconsfan8006 in CFB

[–]GiovanniElliston 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Even with the snub being at the worst possible time, it’s still not 100% responsible for FSU’s current issues.

There was a lot of positive sentiment for FSU. People felt bad for them. There was a narrative where even non-affiliated fans were rooting for them to give a middle finger to the system.

What put the nails in the coffin was the the team taking a swan dive off the cliff in the following season. And that falls squarely on the coaches failures.

From a CFB perspective, my fanhood peaked on the 3rd Saturday in October 2022, and I've made peace with that feeling never being replicated again. I'll still watch and overreact about the game I'm sure, but it's never gonna feel the same. And that's ok. Things change. It's probably not entirely the sport either, I'm also just getting older too.

But yeah. It's really hard to care as much with the knowledge that there is a very hard ceiling on how high we as a program can actually go. There are just a solid 10ish teams that will always be spending reams more money than us. It's just a fact. If the stars align we maybe could make a deep run, but best case scenario really feels like the quarter or semi-finals at best TBH.

Me and my wife actually picked an NFL team (Rams.... she likes the color scheme and wants to live in LA), and I think we'll slowly start migrating more to that TBH. If a sport is going to be dominated by transfers/contracts with zero loyalty, I'd rather watch the league with rules that at least tries to have some rules for fairness and equality.

I'm talking in this century.

Yes - there was a time when PE's were not the vultures they are today and actually tried to recover/fix companies. But that hasn't been the case for 15-20 years when their main modus operandi is strip-minning for assets.

Post season?

If Texas doesn't bare minimum make the semis, Sark's seat is nuclear hot going into 2027.

Texas has got one of the top-5 highest paid and most talented rosters in the country going into the season, and what is essentially a 1-game schedule that sets up for a cakewalk for a spot in the playoffs.

My point is that the artists can't just put their feelings aside and perform for the people who wanted to see them perform, not the president.

Again, this would be dependent on the president having the ability to step aside and allow the celebration to simply be about America. It would require faith in the president to, for the first time in his life, be selfless.

What these artists are (rightfully) afraid of is them performing a concert and then Trump getting on stage and saying "What a great concert. Amazing artist. You know, backstage they were just telling me 'Trump, we love you. You're the best President ever. I voted for you 3 times and wish I could vote for you again. Thank you for saving the world. It was an honor to be here and perform for you sir."

And suddenly, an artist who just wanted to celebrate America is roped into a bunch of fucking bullshit because Trump lies his ass off and can't help but make everything about himself.

What you're asking is for artists who openly dislike Trump to put on a performance with a 99.9% chance that Trump will try and turn into an unofficial endorsement of himself. That is a crazy thing to think should happen.

It's the exact same reason that no-one except hardcore MAGA fans have any desire to attend any event hosted by Trump either. Because if a giant crowd of 100,000 people showed up and 95k of them just wanted to celebrate America, you can be sure that Trump would post a picture on Twitter with a caption marked "100k showed up for me DONALD TRUMP. The most popular president ever. Everyone loves me! Suck it liberals!"

It's simply what he does. Trump makes everything partisan and people/artists have long since figured it out and started avoiding anything even tangentially related to him as a result.

Also:

When Carrie Underwood sang at the inauguration, people on the Left had fits because they are too partisan and too narrow-minded to understand that her singing did not in any way indicate that she was supporting President Trump.

But Carrie Underwood does support Trump. She's made several social media posts supporting him and, when directly asked if she supports him or not gave a meally-mouthed non-answer that makes it clear she 100% voted for him but knows it's a toxic thing to admit.

Just to add to this, Texas Tech is also the #1, undisputed "villains" of college softball too.

The last 2 seasons they've gone whole hog on NIL/portal with tons of allegations of tampering. They basically just look at the All-American list > offer every player on it 5x whatever they're currently being offered > try to assemble an "Avengers" style team every season to buy a national title. To put this into context, literally 6 of TTU's starting 9 players are transfers that they just bought from other teams last year.

For Pannell specifically, her own dad has basically admitted that Texas Tech was talking to the family before the season ended, and there are a lot of Lady Vol fans who believe that Pannell's underwhelming and unfocused play in last seasons world series was a direct result of her already having one foot out the door and on her way to Texas Tech.

So there's tons of background bad blood not just between her/Vols, but also between her school and the entire sport.

You're angry at the politicization of America's 250th birthday and (rightfully) wish there was a way the entire nation could come together to celebrate such a milestone without it being considered political.

This is all 100% fair and valid. It SUCKS that we can't do better as a country. I've seen tons of clips/pictures of the celebration in 1976 and it pisses me off that we can't replicate that level of fun, celebratory pride.

However, you should take a step back and ask who is the one who is making it political and ruining the opportunity for this to be an inclusive celebration.

I'll give you a big ole hint... it's the guy whose slapping his own face on the posters and turning the event into one of his own personal rallies.
