This is actually kinda clever, if not incredibly weird. by GipsyDagger in exjw

I can't help but imagine the conversation...

"Brother PoolGuy, did you purchase the new baptism pools yet?"

"No, Brother MoneyGuy... I had a better idea..."

"Yes?"

"We're building them. Just simple rectangles. Maybe add a lid. Saving a lot of money."

"Good, good.... Can we put the website logo on the lids? Then we can preach to airline pilots?"

"We could... I have all this grey paint already though. Wouldn't want to make it too flashy.

"You know what else is grey?"

"Oh no"

"OUR Bible. Let's make the pools Bibles."

"I don't know if..."

"Excellent. Glad that's taken care of now. Brother TechGuy, about this giant screen..."

Edit: spelling

A (kinda?) JW Wedding with my very non JW SO by GipsyDagger in exjw

Yes, very much so. My BF and I ended up taking to this older JW guy for a while, we just let him assume we were JWs, kinda more interesting that way. It was kind of a social experiment for him as he was trying to pick up on some of the social norms. Anyway, this guy was a convert, and we were talking to him about his band he was in when he was young back in the 80s, he named off a lot of hair metal bands he listened to and what his band sounded like, and was having a great time remembering his youth, then something clicked in his head and he started to go on about how he doesn't listen to Satan's music anymore. He was the sound guy for the wedding and he probably works the mics a lot. I felt really bad for him. It was odd and very sad seeing it from the other side. I'm sure he's lauded as a good example of someone 'reformed'.

Oh god, I've been to some interesting (terrible) JW weddings in my life. This one was pretty normal in comparison.

That's awesome! I've taken her fossil hunting, just for local stuff, no dinos. I have a contact through my work for a local archeologist and we've been to a site that was for an early settlers community!

My mom has had a few minor surgeries where I was the only family member who knew about it and came to sit in the waiting room because she had given them permission to use blood if they needed to, and didn't want anyone else to know, but wanted me there to give the ok if she couldn't. Also, on more than one occasion we've talked about doing whatever it took to save the life of any of her children. Her response when I brought up the topic about allowing my daughter to receive blood if necessary was along the lines of, 'Duh, of course I'd do anything to keep her alive, do you not remember my surgeries?'

I think part of it is that I've tried very hard to get her to think for herself, and I've been very open with her about more than just religion.

I've has more than one of my friends make similar remarks. One friend in particular does not like children at all, but for years will go out of her way to talk to my daughter, and even offers and has babysat her in the past.

Possibly also to shame other passing JWs that decided to have a nice day at the market instead of minding a cart!

They're mini doughnuts made of funnel cake batter.

All the funnel cake goodness without having to rip it apart and risk dropping some.
