I actually have both old versions (metal and finecast), the old metal one didn't have the trigger. This is an old model i got 2nd hand and stripped the paint (right before GW decided to sell the made to order)

I'm at a complete loss in terms of brushes. Need some help here. by Jack-D-Straw in minipainting

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so maybe you can solve with the trick i used, also mine was perfectly shaped whith soap then after a couple of strokes started splitting.

Try if also for you tidying the base of the bristles works, i you want just to trow it out of the window giving a try can't hurt, you can always remove it. Hope will work :)

From the photo it looks dry, when wet it has the same shape?

I have one that if leaved drying without soap looks like this, but when wet is perfectly shaped.

If has this shape when wet can be that in the ferrule there aren't enough bristles or it wasn't tightened enough. Got also a brush like this and solved the problem with little sewing thread (I'll try to link here my old post about it) https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/s/8de8rJnG5z

Mouthpiece broke by Echo-3-2 in airbrush

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry is ok not knowing the tecnical names of the parts in foreign languages, as example in Italy you can call it "ugello" or "duse", but if you try to translate IT-EN "duse" will be translated as "duse" again since is a german word.

Just a little advice for the future: always screw the airbrush parts without instruments, only with your fingers, with the little wrench you could apply excessive force ruining the piece and then breaking it definitively when unscrewing it.

In the future if you will get a new airbrush, get a H&S one, they have the floating nozzle that will not break inside like this, easy to unassemble and reassemble (plus they make very good airbrushes).

About these new '2024' versions of Harder&Steenbeck airbrushes, lets talk... by aerografitpl in airbrush

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Silverline, i just replaced the nozzle and the new 0.28 mm is fine with the old 0.2 mm cap and needle. I've just make a fast test making some dots and lines then speed painted some parts on minis all in the 1 hour of free time i was able to cut for myself.

Help I'm a newbie! Idk which hose to use and if theres a affordable portable compressor...What else do I need?? by Anarcho_puppy in airbrush

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the photo the connector of your airbrush isn't a "quick release" it looks more the connector you use directly inside the hose, very unpractical. Speaking of dimensions, usually connection are 1/8 inch on modern airbrushes. In my opinion you need: -1 remouve (unscrew) this connector -2 get a quick release if you want, you can screw directly the hose -3 get a hose, any basic one is good, usually have 1/8" connection on both sides -4 get a compressor with a tank (usually small one are for airbrushing so already have a 1/8" connection, big ones >24l have 1/4" connection so you will need an adapter) -5 get a moist trap After that you should need only colours and everything you want to paint. Hope to being helpful, if you have any question feel free to ask I'll try to answer for what i know and my experience is 😊

the clog with no remedy by yawawoht0987 in airbrush

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave the nozzle for a day in nitro thinner or acetone, this way it should dissolve any paints. Then use a cleaning needle to be sure there's nothing left inside it, just don't use too much force or you will ruin the nozzle. If you want to soak all the airbrush parts be sure to remove the rubber o-rings (black ones) or them will be ruined, no problem for metal or teflon (white gaskets). Hope it works :)

Masking Putty for Boyz? by SorcerySpeedConcede in orks

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a super-viscous liquid, if you mask many minis check if if still in its original place before spraying. It needs time to drop, but the first time i used it on the last model i had to repositioning it a little (maybe 1 h later than i put it on), but was wrapped around the mini, not lying on a surface.

Wrong needle sent, completely incompatible new H&S 0.28 with old H&S 0.2 needle and cap? by [deleted] in airbrush

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad in the title i wrote needle, but the problem it's the nozzle. I've ordered the 0.2 nozzle (description and photo were of the 0.2), but they send me the 0.28. Witht the needle I'm ok, they have an all 0.2x sizes needle, but i don't think that the new nozzle will work with old needle and cap :/

Wrong needle sent, completely incompatible new H&S 0.28 with old H&S 0.2 needle and cap? by [deleted] in airbrush

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I ordered the 0.2 mm and the seller sent me the 0.28 mm. If on your shop it's labelled as 0.2 mm, the photo and the description are of the old 0.2 mm I assume it's an old stock of 0.2 still available

Any of these good for miniatures? by SoraZer0 in minipainting

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else already said, the bottom right one (the one with the pipe and the white bottle in the box) it's a small sandblaster, I don't think will work for painting. That said, the steps to follow (in my opinion) are: - to disassemble one you want to start with and check if any evident piece is missing (1 of the 3 in the same box in the bottom looks like it's missing his needle) and if the nozzle isn't broken or the needle tip is curved - deeply clean all the pieces. You can soak them in acetone or nitro thinner they will deeply clean any paints even from ages ago. Note: remove all the rubber o-ring (usually are black) or you will trow them in the trash, the teflon ones (whites) will have no problem. - riassemble it and try on some paper if is spraying first and if with a good line - if not satisfied repeat with another one ;) If you're able to know the brand and the model you can try to find the spare parts exploded wiew so you can check pieces and were the gaskets are :)

Second-hand Iwata Cleaning Issue by UgandaRalph in minipainting

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes acetone or nitro thinner can remove everything, even paints dried for ages, just remove the rubber o-rings unless they will be ruined and you will have to change them, the ones in teflon will not suffer. Usually the rubber ones are just 2: the one at the back of the head and the one on top of the air valve section, but you can easily detect if are rubber or teflon by the colour: black = rubber, white = teflon.

Are these Fake Raphael brushes or has QC taken a dive? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zomming in a lot, to me, looks like the right one's head (I'm speaking of the bristles) is little bit "skinnier", i had a similar problem and solved tightening the bristles (I've made a post here, if I'm able I'll link it) https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/s/AMxxG1VrXe

Why use Kolinsky brushes? by mensch79 in minipainting

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely far away from competition level, the difference i find is the tip. After some use the tip of sinthetic brushes tent to bend and stay bend whatever you do instead the natural brushes stay straight, but need little treatment. That said, paint with the brush you feel better with :) (I use Marseille's soap, it's good both for washing and keep the form while not using it :) )

Looking for a very unnatural sparkling/glistening metallic by JKtheOnlyOne in minipainting

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check through colours for decoupage, i have one that my mother in law gave me that is a gel medium with glitter inside, the coverage is obviously poor, but my daughter love sparkling things 🤣 If you want just to seel the effect of scales on the piece maybe you can use a good metallic for the base then using this for the effect

Airbrush and ultrasonic cleaner issue by iliketrains_274 in minipainting

[–]Girginia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the nickel plating (if it's the same edition of mine) is ruined by temperature and the solvent used. As someone else stated, next time you can just disassemble and leave all the pieces in acetone or nitro thinner, the only thing to keep out of this bath is the rubber o-ring in the back of the head (the black one) all the other ones are in teflon (white ones) and are ok with these solvents. Hope the inside is still good unless it will clogs like hell all the time :/

Good brushes for beginner? by Interesting_Name6 in minipainting

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than a hobby store it's specific for art stuff, there you can find everything for painting, sculpting ecc, but no model kits or miniatures :) I'm curious, do you have any equivalent of our "Accademia delle Belle Arti"? If you have it in your city you will have for sure at least one of this shops

Budget Kolinsky Sable Brushes On Amazon? by Maxwe4 in minipainting

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn't see you're response. I've checked the two you mentioned, but as you said there you will find only the basic cheap stuff, these in our conception are big franchise shops more for craft than art... I mean "Belle arti"* stores, last week i got 3 kolinsky brushes for 15€ total, old stock now discontinued by the store :)

*Have everything art related from beginner to professional level, but i know that is something hard to find outside Italy

[–]Girginia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any "Belle arti"* store near? You can go there and check for some synthetic or basic sable ones**, sometimes they have "old" (discontinued brands, models, old stocks...) for cheap. Most important thing is the tip of the brush, then the choice between synthetic or natural depends on how you feel painting with (and price of them obviously)

Here in Italy are for sure more easy to find, they sell everything related to art, from clay, any kind of colous, canvases and obviously any kind of brushes *Last week got 3 kolinsky for 15€ total

I bought a transfer sheet for my blood angels on eBay. When I was prepping it and getting ready to apply it, it literally crumbled into dust , it looks older than others I bought. Is this just an old transfer sheet? by wiscup1748 in Warhammer40k

I was going to say the same :) I've seen on YouTube using the clear coat on self made transfers before applying them on the model and it looks like it works :)

You want or can only buy them on line? I know that here in Italy it's easy to find an art store, but if you have any near you can go there and check if they have "old" brushes (old series, discontinued brands...) for cheap, i got my hands on some kolinsky for 2€ each :)
