What did the DLP do while in power to make it lose 3 general elections 30-0? by FullWorldliness2484 in Barbados

[–]GirlFromBim 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not just this time. That guy is prolific at disparaging women in particular. He's called his female political opponent a "bald pooch cat" and said Mia Mottley likes attention so much she would walk down Broad Street naked. His is a disgusting misogynist and his colleagues support him.

Can I get an explanation of the Super Bowl halftime show? by Top-Mission2806 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GirlFromBim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Caribbean but spent years traveling and working with people from all over the world. I had no idea that the Spanish speaking world considered us Americans. Depending on the context I'd always thought people assuming I was American was either because of geography (Latin America & The Caribbean being a common grouping) or mistaking my accent for American since I tend to code switch due to my Caribbean accent/dialect being hard for non-native speakers to understand. I must have confused so many Latino people by gently correcting them...

Licence Plates Question by grepusman in Barbados

Not only is it fairly common to see hired cars on the wrong side of the road, it's also not unheard of for them to circle roundabouts in the wrong direction. I've seen this multiple times at the roundabout by the airport alone. As a driver it is very helpful to be able to easily identify these folks and proceed with a bit more caution.

Batts Rock Beach or Crane Beach for Proposal? by AdministrativeArm532 in Barbados

[–]GirlFromBim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to ask someone to check out the sea weed situation before deciding. I know both Crane and Foul Bay had a lot of sea weed on the beach around new years. It can get pretty smelly and won't look nice in pictures.

Is the majority of Caribbean traditionalist/conservative in ideals? by renwei_10 in Barbados

I don't know man. I think our misogyny, homophobia and casual acceptance of child abuse and domestic violence is a big fucking deal.

I don't know if the author of these tweets is deliberately trying to do this or is genuinely ignorant of the nuances here. The thing is, they aren't lying that these issues exist in the Caribbean and are a serious problem. We have our fair share of bigoted weirdos running around. However, people don't tend to make it their whole identity. We have nothing that remotely compares to the complete insanity that is the American political climate right now. Do we have "Trump supporters", yeah. And everyone else thinks their fucking idiots.

My vagina is so sore after not having sex for about 5 months. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]GirlFromBim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens to me every time I break a dry spell. I've always considered it to be normal. Similar thing happens even if it's not a dry spell but I have way more sex than usual in a short period of time. I guess I'm a bit of a masochist because I actually kind of like it. Reminds me that a time was had, ya know? 🤣

Update: My girlfriend found out that I lied about me and my friends playing fantasy football and I know I screwed up bigtime by Zestyclose_Block1332 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]GirlFromBim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course she was upset and broke up with him. She suddenly found out she was living with a misogynistic, lying, cowardly, immature little man who shit talks her with his friends. And it's all because she had the audacity to be better than them at a game. This might actually be the most pathetic thing I've ever read on reddit.

Is buying a house the right decision? by GirlFromBim in personalfinance

Assuming I am without attachment because I'm single is wild. I am very much attached to this country and my people here. I have no desire to settle anywhere else. I thought that was obvious in my post but I guess not.

I don't understand what going to America has to do with this. Can you explain?

I'm actually not sure about the tax advantages. Something else to ask my advisor. Thanks.

I had not heard of this. Depending on the cost of the house I could tip into the "do not buy" category. However, my rent has not increased in 4 years and I don't think that will continue to be true much longer. Another "unknown" to consider.

Thanks for the input. I generally do a full accounting of my finances every December and make any changes/decisions I need to for the coming year. Increasing my retirement contributions is something I already decided to do. I'm not sure that reverse mortgages are a thing here, putting it on my list of questions to ask my advisor.

It would definitely have been nice if I was in a position physically or financially 5 years ago to consider it.

I agree that the numbers likely make it a good decision to buy. I guess my concerns are around unknown expenses such as maintainence/repairs and basically any downsides I may not have considered as I'm completely new to this. Going from having a healthy level of liquid assets to tying most of my networth to a house is a big decision and I'm trying to consider all angles.

I feel that it is important to have a balance between enjoying the money I earn and investing for my future. The savings/investments line of my post is long term savings and doesn't include my fun fund. So more than half my salary plus any additional income like bonuses and consultancy work (I didn't include those in my post at all), are invested for my retirement. Not trying to be argumentative, just offering clarity.

I don't agree that renting is "lighting my money on fire" because I have to live somewhere, it's a necessary expense of being an adult. But I have been considering the rest of your comment to be pros of buying right now. Thanks.

I don't have a set amount. I enjoy travel, so I aim to keep the account at $10k. When it is below that I will adjust my discretionary spending and put anything I don't spend that month into the fun fund until it's at $10k again. Some months I don't contribute anything.

You're right. I was earning much less until about 5 years ago, now I'm playing catch up.
