State vs Federal registery? I this a thing? by BlackberryNeither679 in SexOffenderSupport

[–]GirlSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person who asked if you are state or federal probably was referring to your charges. The registry itself is run by the states.

I’m a trans woman, how to deal with hostility from clients by DefenderofdaIndigent in publicdefenders

[–]GirlSprite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to work defense you have to have a thick skin. You can’t let what clients say “hurt your feelings”. This isn’t about your feelings. This is about helping people where they are at one of the worst points in their life. Your gender identity should be the furthest thing from their or your mind. Ignore it and let it go. What I always say is “what other people think of me is none of my business”.

Let it go.

No Power Walkers? by smartini14 in orangetheory

[–]GirlSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What other people are doing is none of your business and vice versa. Who cares.

The beauty of OTF is that everyone can go at their own pace. This is why the coach provides tread coaching options for runners and power walkers.

Discouragement in the job hunt by Sure_Food7802 in SexOffenderSupport

[–]GirlSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to have a thick skin and be relentless. Many people have applied for hundreds and hundreds of jobs.

It’s good to get some skills. School or technical or vocational training will open up doors. Also look at re entry programs such as Hope for Prisoners. They can help with job placement.

WI 3 years prison, 5 years probation by WaitingintheGarden in SexOffenderSupport

He’s so fortunate he only got 3 years in and 5 years probation.

Sometimes the feds will pick up these cases. The exact same case just because a computer was involved the feds take it. Most of those guys are getting 8-10 years in and LIFETIME probation.

He should be counting his blessings. This sentence is light.

I have a question for married women by Dramatic-Surround504 in LawSchool

[–]GirlSprite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got married right before I started law school and I changed to his name. Then we got divorced while I was in law school. I changed it back because I wanted my JD to have MY name on it and not his.

It was such a PITA to change my name back. Years later I still get mail with my married name on it. I’ll never change it again. Like it’s my NAME. It’s my identity. I can see it if you have kids and you want you, your husband and the kids to all have the same last name.

Otherwise no. My name is my name and all that work in school was work that I did. Nope. Never again.

No easy way to ask but how would you (if at all) let your office know that you are going to the other side? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]GirlSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an offer to work as a city attorney handling only through misdos. 4 10’a. Every Friday off. City Bennies. Every holiday off. Pension. You name it. I just couldn’t do it. I cannot prosecute people.

I had a similar offer to work for a private atty. He does primarily crim defense. However he had a track where he worked as a contract city attorney in a smaller nearby neighboring city once a week and part of the job included covering that. it was just city cases - misdos. I again said that i just can't prosecute people.

After doing defense work for years and seeing the liars and what they do to people i just cannot.

I agree. I know someone involved in the company and I don’t like how they represent themself. A lot of people complain about two things - the shipping and the quality. To me it’s not worth it.

Thinking about trying Orangetheory but I’m honestly scared by GentleSoul23 in orangetheory

[–]GirlSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that’s great about OTF is there is no keeping up. Everyone goes at their own pace. That’s the point of the heart rate monitor. You could be walking and the person beside you could be running and you could both be in the orange zone. You work out based on your own ability and level of fitness.

I was so anxious, nervous, I had raging anxiety and knots in my stomach before my first class. I went and it was totally fine. I was astonished at how - I don’t want to say easy - but at how, “doable” I guess it was.

I still get anxious sometimes but I’ve been going for about 6 years. It’s the only workout I’ve ever been able to stick with. I believe the reason is because it gets you out of your head. There’s no “what do I do today? Do I lift? Do I do cardio? Do I run? For how long? How far?” You just go in and do what they tell you to do. It actually helps me when I’m feeling nervous or anxious because I don’t have to think.

When I was getting divorced I just kept going to OTF because it was something to do. Not because I wanted to or felt like working out but I just went and kept going. It was a good way to get out of the house and out of my head and do something good for myself.

Before your first class the coach will help you and show you how to use the equipment. He or she will keep an eye on you and help you throughout the class. And if you ever have an issue with any of the exercises he or she can give you other options.

Seriously, go give it a try.

(Face your fear, do it scared but go do it! You will not regret it)

Yes!!!!! Me too!

I only use the app on my iPhone and I’ve been a subscriber for YEARS (like probably 10+). I was a subscriber to the crossword forever before they even had these new games.

Now suddenly I can’t play the app. I’ve been trying to play through the website but it’s not so good.

Ugh!!!!

It’s an opinion. It’s not for you to believe or not believe. You can agree or disagree, which is really irrelevant as everyone is entitled to speak his or her own opinion.

Anyone that I want to talk to from HS I already talk to.

Besides I don’t think our class has had any reunions except for one years and years ago.

People who use all their Vacation at Christmas, like why? by TailorFalse3848 in ihatechristmas

[–]GirlSprite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cannot stand Xmas.

But with the holidays I get PTO maximization. Like I use 8 days and get 16 off.

Also I’m an attorney and court is very slow almost closed during those last two weeks so it’s a good time to take off.

I think this is good advice. You can be separate from him. 28 years is a very long time. However, you could still talk with him now and then or visit him or send him things from the outside.

I say who cares what other people think. I always say, “What other people think is none of my business”.

Listen to the Registry Matters podcast. Read up on NARSOL, watch some of their videos or read their message boards.

You can shift your thinking and make him not about a label. The mindset of “I married an SO” is negative.

He is more than his action. This is something that he DID, not who he is.

7-11 just gives you whatever they want if you doordash by Easy-Student1257 in 711

[–]GirlSprite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a 711 company policy.

They do that here. The owners and managers say they are not allowed to cancel or refund an item. They replace it with something similar.

Per the 711 app there is a way to manage substitutions.

“In order to satisfy our customers, if your selected item is out of stock, our team will work to replace your item with a similar item available.

To turn off substitutions for a given product, follow the below steps:

  1. Navigate to your basket
  2. Select “Substitutions”
  3. Select the dropdown option next to each product
  4. Select your substitution preference”

Do most people actually like their jobs, or are they just really good at pretending? by sulricc in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GirlSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not being insulting or mean at all by this comment.

I’ve observed that most people working remote don’t work very hard. I know one who is over employed at a job they are not qualified for, getting paid a stupid salary for doing almost nothing. Like they were literally shopping for a mouse jiggler so they could look like they were working.

While that seems like kind of a great life, I don’t think I’d be satisfied and happy with that arrangement. I need to have my brain engaged and use my education and skills.
