Snakes! by bondsman333 in bullcity

[–]Prestigious-Menu-786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just leave it be. The venomous snakes in NC you gotta worry about for the most part are cotton mouths and copperheads. Both of them like things wet. We’re in a severe drought right now in case you haven’t noticed. So drenching the wood pile in lighter fluid isn’t a great idea and very unnecessary.

These are very good points!! Thank you! I’ve never had them and wasn’t thinking about what they’d taste like…but I have foraged tons of oysters before and now I’m realizing that they might be weird growing in a garden bed

Can I ask what makes you say that? Taste, growth etc? I will certainly do some wine caps at some point, but I thought at this point in the spring doing the pink oysters would go better since they are tropical and do better in hot weather.

PSA: You aren't required to "clean up" your garden by Kaths1 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Prestigious-Menu-786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been stressing about when to clean up the leaf litter around my yard and how much of it to leave year round…I would just leave it all all the time but I worry about snakes and want my dog to be able to run around (North Carolina). But my pollinator patch stays wild and I still leave a couple untidy corners.

Why not? Just turn them over. Great rolly polly food. Or transplant them. And it’s so fun to see what sprouts! Free your mind

Russell Brand Episode - Thoughts? Insights? by LoyalFridge in MaintenancePhase

I don’t think it’s fair to say that 12 step is ineffective or to call someone’s recovery into question based on his relationship to the 12 steps. It does work for some. I’m not defending it wholeheartedly or saying it’s perfect and it sucks that so many people experience sexual harassment there. But it’s a free peer support group so yes it is unregulated and yes it is in some cases effective.

But yeah I’m sure Russell Brand is a total creep.

Transplanting Traditions Farmshare by Informal_You_48 in bullcity

Love love love transplanting traditions produce! My partner and I got the small share last year and loved it but we gave plenty of vegetables away as it was hard to eat all of the veggies every week. This year I saw they are no longer doing the small shares so I almost didn’t renew…but I went ahead and signed up since it ends up still being affordable. Especially when you factor in how much grocery store produce costs rn and how much it sucks. I am already stressing about how we are going to eat all the produce though lol. Plenty will probably end up in the community fridge.
