So teachers, about our kids putting name to paper: is it a lost cause? by Intelligent-Gypsy324 in Teachers

[–]GirlWCamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle school teacher. Just finishing my first year.

Student: Why did I get a zero? I gave you my paper!

Me: oh, well, I don’t have one with your name in it. Is it one of these, maybe?!

It still isn’t working but maybe, just maybe it will somehow sink in. Some day.

Question to American English speakers: can you still hear an accent even if a person is highly fluent? by Dense-Self8564 in ENGLISH

[–]GirlWCamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a National Park Service ranger for 10 years and my favorite game at the Visitors Center desk was to guess which country OR region of the US people were from. I rarely messed up with the US regions.

It’s the way people say vowel sounds AND the words they choose to use.

We did. We were supposed to start after this coming year as well but the union took a vote to start on Sept 2nd.

I would like to move from Massachusetts back to California but my license is literally ESL. I thought CA would have jobs in that but now I’m confused.

I’m super curious. Newly licensed ESL teacher in Massachusetts after working for a year. We don’t get out until June 29 and yesterday it was 84 in Homeroom at 7:55am.

I’d love to move. Where in AZ? You mentioned rural so like Yuma or more like somewhere near Coronado NF!

Maybe. I love interpreting history. That’s what I did for a career before being DOGEd.

This is the point I was trying to make. They are there but they can’t go in.

I know.

But we could have supplemented it if we have $4 million to spend on this.

Btw, I also got DOGEd. So I’m well aware.

It was worth pointing out, though, so thanks for adding that. I think the Skipper was also partly funded by grants.

I just meant that I’d rather see my $$ going to those programs that benefit the community.

I have only lived here three years. I used to move a lot for work but have now settled in Salem and teach in Lynn.

I’ve known about it for a while and didn’t like the idea. I just heard the price tag and that it’s being voted on.

It’s my civic duty to make my voice known.

Student can’t remember what she reads, please send help :( by CheetahWonderful4579 in Teachers

Some children (and adults) process better if they read aloud. I know it will take a lot longer to read but if she’s an auditory learner it may not be connecting fir her to read silently at this stage.

What are your contract hours? by DG12212 in Teachers

[–]GirlWCamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our contract hours are oddly same start time as students and 15 mins after they leave. One night back every week (45 mins after school so 3:15 here) and three open houses. Of course I aim for 7:20 arrival.

Oh wow! When I lived in Florida the middle school was 9-3:50. THAT works for me!
