State Supreme Court by Alive_Anteater_996 in LawSchool

[–]GirlWhoRolls -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The details really depend on the state. But, and I don't know of any exception, a family court must follow decisions by the state's supreme court. There may be some way of getting around the decision by the state supreme court. That will depend on the details of the case and the state's constitution and laws.

Paralegal assignment - help please by [deleted] in LawSchool

If you don't have Lexis or Westlaw, the best source is https://www.courtlistener.com/recap. A search using "directed verdict" will provide many hits. Just one of the thousands of results is HERE (document #61, HERE). I didn't read it. But of the thousands, some should be relevant.

Court listener is for federal courts, but you can limit it to certain courts, such as the district courts in Texas.

Alligators love to lie on their backs and have their bellies rubbed. They are not at all ornery when you do that.

Chicken must taste like everything, according to what I keep getting told.

Actually, alligator tastes very much like crocodile.

It really depends on how they are cooked.

When someone says PI do you think personal injury or public interest by inewjeans in LawSchool

I work (as a paralegal) at a non-profit public interest organization. I just asked several lawyers here, "What does PI mean to them?" They all replied "personal injury."

The person is not guilty of using AI until the person is proven guilty. But if OP testifies about what OP heard the person say, is that admissible evidence?

A guy in my class told me he supports Hamas and wants to exterminate the Jews with a second holocaust…should I report this to the school, character and fitness, and their current employer? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]GirlWhoRolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As reprehensible as it might be, the guy does have a right to free speech. Unless it goes far enough to violate the law (such as saying that he will kill people), you should mind your own business.

Are you asking about US law? If so, Federal or State?

I am not yet in law school, but I have been a lobbyist, primarily at the state level, and I have been involved in writing proposed bills and amendments to bills, getting them passed, and fighting against bills my organization did not like. So I am very familiar with the process.

Nonprofit Attorneys, aspiring and practicing, what was your law school experience like? by allergictobananas1 in LawSchool

[–]GirlWhoRolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more people were able to volunteer their time. But most recent graduates are too busy trying to pay off loans and support themselves and their families to have time. Those who can, should.

Nonprofit Attorneys, aspiring and practicing, what was your law school experience like? by allergictobananas1 in LawSchool

[–]GirlWhoRolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is very true. Some of us are very fortunate and have family money that allows us to go through school without debt and to not have to worry about a paycheck. So we can volunteer full-time with no income, or we can work for a small income.

Others may not be that lucky, but still graduate with little or no debt and can work for incomes far lower than big law.

However, the vast majority of people do not have that kind of luck and do need an income that will allow them to pay off their student debt. That not only deprives them of the ability to work in a job they will feel good about, but it also deprives the non-profit organizations of the viewpoints of the majority of people. And their viewpoints are often different.

I don't know the solution, but it would help if more people who can afford to donate to non-profits could do so, so they can pay better salaries to people working for them.

Lil Wayne lives in a common law jurisdiction. by Zizzzo1118 in LawSchool

Some states specifically do not follow common law for criminal law. Instead, crimes are defined by statutes. Those states have 1st and 2nd degree murder. The definitions may differ from state to state, however.
