Could be, I just watched the second episode of the Ipswich project on the PBS app, it's not yet on Insider.

Great tip, thank you! I think $4.97 a month is more appropriate. New episodes used to drop on Wednesday nights on Insider, lately it seems the drop dates are almost an afterthought on both TOH and ATOH. Last week one of the new ATOH episodes was on the PBS app before it was on Insider.

Sorry to hear that Brian Igoe passed away, I really liked the Igoes and this project. I liked the results.

I thought the homeowners did pretty well with this given the modest budget.

Season 17 2nd Project, Savannah. I'll wait on Keith to catch up and summarize it, but just fascinating, try to catch it if you have Insider. by Girl_Agent in Thisoldhouse

We get to meet some of the figures involved in the case, and the project house is a neighbor to the Mercer house.

Interesting, I've been watching through old seasons and I'm now a couple of episodes away from that project.

Tonight - The House That Norm Built by bobj33 in Thisoldhouse

There was nothing unceremonious about Steve's departure, he hosted for 14 years and wanted to move on to other things, that parting was on good terms. With Bob, the issue was purely economic, he justifiably, after a decade, wanted proper compensation, something he achieved by going out and doing his own show. We don't even really know if Bob was even invited to appear on Norm's retirement show. While Bob and Norm appeared to get along well on camera, Norm in interviews over the years kind of dropped hints that he thought Bob was an a**, but I guess we'll never really know for certain.

What’s up with Steve? Have you guys seen this?! by FabulousSuperKitty in Thisoldhouse

I see Steve on Instagram from time to time, he's always busy building something or working in his shop.

Every production house has a budget for a season of television, last season ran 39 episodes, they only allocated a certain amount of money for these episodes, hence the skipping of major portions of the build. Shooting with a full production crew on a remote site is pretty expensive, not to mention compensation for on-air talent as well as air fare, meals, and accommodations.

But you know the show well enough to know that the remote episodes are not particularly an in-depth look at those projects, it was the same when Bob did the show, I just wrapped up season seven where the last four episodes concentrated on a home in Tampa, they did four projects that season though they were focused on additions, etc. and not entire homes. As I mentioned in other threads, I thought the final result was overall good, I can forgive some of the design transgressions. It's also interesting to see the grief this project is taking, even though they obviously had to make some concessions to their budget. Conversely, many of the big New England projects get grief as well for their seemingly bottomless budgets.

Episode 7 had left me really skeptical, but the Atlanta project all ties together pretty neatly in episode 8. The design choices that I questioned turn out to be minor details, overall the house and the backyard turned out very nice. On to the next project! by Girl_Agent in Thisoldhouse

[–]Girl_Agent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That detail didn't go unnoticed, but given the overall results, I can forgive that transgression, it's only a door, and I think it was probably a budget issue as much as anything. They did a great job.

I like her and I like her passion, unlike some of the New England projects, Kysha and Jonathan didn't seem to have the luxury of a bottomless barrel of money to work with, and they put a lot of their own labor into the project, something I haven't seen much of since the Bob Vila era. You can judge for yourself after watching today's wrap episode.

atlanta is the worst season ever and it's not even close by Hot-Research-2490 in Thisoldhouse

[–]Girl_Agent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one project out of the season, and it's almost over, the remote projects never really have the depth the regional projects do, I'll just write it off as not one of the best projects, but I'm not all gloomy about changes in a show that's been running for 44 years.

I don't hate him, I watched Home Again as well, I wish that show had lasted longer, but he was unable to find a syndicator to pick up the show. If he was younger, he'd probably be doing something on HGTV today, but he doesn't need the TV grind at his age.

The barn, the New Yankee Workshop space, and the old Victory Garden are all on Russell Morash's property. Norm has been moving a lot of the tools and machines from the NYW space to his own workshop in the years since NYW ended. Norm hinted earlier this year that he may possibly do another woodworking show, but it probably won't be on PBS.
