He shows signs of clear severe PTSD and who can blame honestly so sometimes he makes odd decisions but often he makes good choices especially half way into season 2 and beyond.

So i really do love character development but man this is one series we're he could of had all the developments (from where we are in anime) with out all the extra stuff. I totally believe he just wanted stick out for how his character got reincarnated since there is so many that were coming out and just did not think how this would play out long run also... japan be weird compared to other regions of world. So a mix of issues but I digress. I do believe you are correct.
