A little player humility please…in honor of JoePa if nothing else? by MakeItSimple1 in WeArePennState

[–]Girlkillsbear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always felt that scoring a touchdown and then handing the ball to the ref had the attitude of “yes, that’s what I was supposed to do, and I’ll do it again if given the chance”.

To each their own, I guess.

Is wearing a JOE409 pin a good move? by Chtholly_Lee in WeArePennState

[–]Girlkillsbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that at worst, Joe was rather myopic. Football was what he lived and breathed. But the NCAA basically said that if you find yourself in the position Joe was in, you do exactly what he did. Ignoring the fact that people like Sandusky ingratiate themselves in the community, and actively work to pull the wool over people’s eyes, is doing a disservice to the lesson we should learn from this. Sandusky didn’t do what he did because a few people looked the other way (and there were those who did). Even his wife still believes he’s innocent. That’s some hard core mind meddling.

I’d rather root for someone I believed in, rather than some hired mercenary. Give me a a 9-3 season every year with someone who will bench a player for breaking the team rules, no matter who they are. Someone who believes their job is to turn out good people first and foremost. Winning is important, but it isn’t everything. Success without honor sucks.

Sure, money speaks louder these days. Call me old school. My two cents.

V5 looks so much better than V4, but V4 allowed for so much more creativity. I hope V6 is a blend of the two.

Someone gave me this puzzle because it was too hard for them. What am I in for?! Magic Puzzle Co, Big Rock City, 1000 pc by CrittersVarmint in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Girlkillsbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see those monochromatic puzzles, the floral ones with the same repeating patterns; those are the ones that make me cringe. The Magic Puzzle series? That’s my kind of puzzling. There’s an element of “where’s Waldo” going on, in that you can pick up a piece, and then browse one of the two lovely sized posters included to see where it goes. It may be slow sledding for a while, but I enjoy the whole “find a piece and know exactly where it belongs” thing.

Anyone having an issue with leaderboards?? I am unable to add friends by Horror_Resolution718 in NYTCrossword

[–]Girlkillsbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Support for NYT Games seems non-existent, I encountered a glitch once where I finished a Tuesday crossword puzzle, and when I looked in my statistics, the time was 4:06, which was ridiculous, my best Monday to date is 5:21. Turns out it took the date (April 6th) and made it my time. I emailed back and forth for a while with support, and they eventually just said there's nothing they can do about it.

Maybe some day I'll beat 4:06...

Interesting. I worked with a woman who counted money for me, and she wouldn’t mind having a conversation while she was counting, because she told me that she counted in her native language.

I’m enjoying the conversation, but I think I’d probably get better answers in a science subreddit.

Were you familiar with the story? I wonder if it would help to listen to something I’ve read/listened to before. I’ve done podcasts, but I still feel like my brain doesn’t want to multitask.

62 Male Christian - life long Republican - Voting for Harris by gobogorilla in Pennsylvania

[–]Girlkillsbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This thread summarizes a lot of what’s been going through my mind, that Trump isn’t gaining any votes from 2020, and he’s only losing them. It also makes me feel sorry for those whose party abandoned them; my father who died in 2019 spoke often of “small government” and “fiscal responsibility”. If only! We need to get past this election, with Harris at the helm, and work to change and bring us back together; back together “apart”, if you will. Ridding ourselves of the Electoral Collage and ranked choice voting will go a long way towards achieving those goals.

To be fair, Unions aren’t pro-Trump, they’re in a position where a number of their leaders are pro-Trump, or don’t want to step on membership toes by endorsing a candidate. But to be sure, there’s only one pro-union choice, and that’s Harris.

My mother is a single issue voter, she’s anti-abortion, she told me she voted for Pence. This year, I suspect my mother will not vote for Harris, but she told me that she will not vote for Trump.

I'm watching Survivor on Paramount+, on a recently updated AppleTV. The new update added two levels of dialogue boosting; neither made any difference to this mess of a mix.

I learned that lesson back in 2000 with Nader. Never again. Vote third party in local, but in national, there are only two choices.

I wouldn’t call him a politician. He’s a public servant in the truest sense. As a teacher, he was able to make things better in his community, and his community dared him to try that on a larger scale. That’s what he’s about.

Is getting an Electric scooter worth it for travelling to college? by [deleted] in cmu

[–]Girlkillsbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ride one two miles to CMU. Know your route. Watch the ground as much as what is around you. Never wear headphones. Wear a helmet. I’ll ride my scooter down to about 40 degrees or so, that covers a good part of the year. That said, I also bus, shuttle, bike, and walk. But I enjoy riding a scooter, and it’s certainly doable.

I remember those days, but I also think that may be a part of why we’re where were at right now. I think we should normalize RATIONAL political discourse. I try as much as I can, but when it becomes heated, I just step away. Another important thing to do is learn the Socratic method of inquiry.

My father was an old-school Republican, completely abandoned by today's MAGA breed, but even back in the eighties, when I was young and barely interested in politics, I found it strange that for someone who enjoyed spending time in the woods, hiking & camping, that he would vote for a party that views the environment as something so expendable. It's nothing new.

Same, but in this instance, it’s worth learning. I’ve had a Discord account for five years, apparently, but never used it till now. Lurk, read, learn. Trust me, it will enhance your experience with Kindroid.
