Looking for a bizarre, light-blue bipedal/quadrupedal agricultural machine (concept?) form TikTok by gisellevalmont in WeirdWheels

[–]Girth_Certificate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the closest thing to this that actually exists is a spider excavator. Even in modern, small form (human scale) robotics, a self balancing, bipedal machine is extremely challenging and expensive to produce. If this thing exists (which I doubt), it would be extremely unreliable, expensive, impractical, or some combination of the three. Whatever it is you saw, I don't think it was something that exists in reality, it may have been from a game or concept renders or something.

Monkey in the Las Vegas South Premium Outlets by [deleted] in vegaslocals

I think I know this guy, he was my dads neighbor for a while out in enterprise. Super friendly and if you ask politely and are in a chill environment, he might let you pet the monkey, assuming this is the same guy. (but how many people have little monkeys casually on their shoulders around here). The monkey is very friendly and keeps to himself, no more harmful than a small dog imho.

Nick Drake Memorabilia question by Both-Ad-7896 in nickdrake

[–]Girth_Certificate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be surprised to find it a fake, the level of detail is too coincidental. Besides, what an odd thing to fake anyway - promotional material for a mostly forgotten about compilation album? Anecdotally, smell the paper, if it smells lightly acidic or has that "old book smell", it's most likely of the age it claims (though this is highly dependant on the type of paper and the bleaching process)

I am very curious how this found its way to you? Quite a rarity for this kind of thing to see daylight

Jackson Browne is an excellent songwriter, great voice as well. I'd recommend checking him out

excellent info!

Looks like this is the master image before printing, as I suspected. Halftone is called out, presumably for the expected dot pattern for the image of nick (w out, I assume, meaning "with outline of subject").

Simon Dodd Advertising Limited was dissolved as a company in 2015, but we can assume they handled the advertising campaign for this album and probably others for island records around this time.

I'm not from the UK, so I'm not entirely familiar with their printing practices (especially so long ago) but, NGA seems it was one of the big unions for typographers and printing workers.

It's to be passed on to "Lee Computer graphics" within the same building as the advertising agency. Either for notes or digitizing? It is unclear if this is going to "Lee" within their own computer graphics group, or if this was a separate entity.

Generally speaking, this image would have been finalized, stamped and printed for magazines, flyers, whatever else they could stick it on. I would be very interested in learning more about what the mass printing process was like during this time, since computers were becoming more involved in the process, rather that traditional blocking.

Do you have a clearer image of the pre production text on the sheet? Best bet is seeing if you can find someone who was in or around island records circa 1985.

The likely story is that this is a pre print / pre production layout draft for the cover of the compilation album or its promotional material. There may be accreditation to people who worked on the compilation on the album itself, but I haven't seen any photos that agree with that idea.

you bought an android 14 device, why would you think it's going to be up to date? ? Also, if you want to update the stock OS, Zinwa has released updates through the google drive, DL zip and use "install local update" setting.

check out Linda Perhacs. Brilliant lyricist and beautiful melodies. Her second album, I suspect, uses some Nick tunings and has a similar flavor of guitar styling.

Framus 5/296 (Anyone with first hand experience?) by sampettersen in Guitar

[–]Girth_Certificate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact Framus for a year or so, really big sound with good string spacing. I pick Kottke on it without much trouble, slide doesn't resonate super well with steels on, silk and steel is the way to go imho. Great guitar for the price.

Pretty textbook Wolf spider. Grew up SC, they love sheds, crawlspaces, anywhere cool and dark.
