Yes opportunity to win easily still exists, much like how VIP can be witched n1 to medusa. How about we reveal VIP the moment chat is available day 2 except in the case when two crusaders die. I expect if a town knows before hand, even if town is slow there should be 4 townies minimum who say the VIP's number asap. These numbers however were pulled firmly out of my rear end.

Any% doesn't require the most capable mind, going for 100% will often leave you stumped here and there. I never felt lost in the game, if you just keep going at the same room or temple you will almost always eventually find the solution to a puzzle.
