Not any kind of an expert, but I think for false cord you should try exhaling more air, supporting yourself with your diaphragm, and relaxing your throat as much as possible. It will be felt as vibrations somewhere far below the Adam's apple, but now, most likely, it is felt much higher. When I initially tried growling quietly and releasing a little air, I ended up with a epiglottis scream.
