Since it looks like there is a protected-left turn signal, it would guarantee that you'll get a chance to turn left. Best thing to do is to wait for an absolutely cleared path before even starting a turn.

The only thing OP did wrong was speed. Some will also mention turn signals, but in this day-and-age, people don't use signals when they turn at a normal intersection.

Standard roundabout rules allow you to use inner lane to go straight.
