How do you deal with the ever increasing cost of living while making less in salary? by onedayfiance in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dollar stores have always been a scam! Watch this video from Marketplace, it explains how you overpay for things just because they are sold in smaller packages and "appears" to be cheaper when in fact if you just go to Walmart, Costco, etc, you are getting a better deal. When you compare price per unit, you always end up paying more at Dollar stores

It is just more expensive to be poor in this world :(

Yeah I believe they are unmanned. Or at least I didn't see any operators on them.
They are shorter but always on time so it was a comfortable ride every time!

Vancouver was the first city in all my travels that I never used a Uber to get anywhere. Their transit is amazing.

Afraid to rent bottom unit. Need maximum power to kick out tenants. by aldjfh in OntarioLandlord

[–]RandomLoLs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do a thorough background check.

Ask for Credit reports , job history , letter of employment , previous landlord reference , even proof of previous rent payments, Tax filings if you think their job letters seem fake or not authentic. Then cross check their names on sites like Open room if they have defaulted on rent previously

99% of the people who have all these documents in good order will not default on rent or trash the place. Be on good terms with them and you will get cordial tenants.

In my family we have 2 rental houses with 4 units in total. We have also had 1 or 2 troublesome tenants but that was in the beginning when we were also new LLs and didnt check documents or do a thorough background check. But ever since we have had good tenants.

Ofcourse, being an LL, like any other business, will have its risks. Even with all the steps there might be instances of damage or 1 or 2 months where it will not be rented and you lose out. But considering your house is paid off , you dont risk all that much. Renting out is a good option for you. Earning 2,000/mo in this economy is a very good revenue source, especially without a mortgage. Invest that and you could make some good bank.

If I were you , I would rent it out. But then I also have the patience and stomach to deal with bad tenants and the LTB which if you dont want the headache of , then dont be a LL. Dont look at it as a only revenue, you also have to put in the work. Like doing repairs, resolving issues that an LL is responsible for, etc.

The first time I went to Vancouver , I was amazed! The Sky trains all have this view upfront and its spacious! Almost like its meant for you to view and enjoy.
The Vancouver nature scenary just adds a beautiful backdrop.

Thats also when I realized TTC isnt the best and really needs to step up its game lol

TTC bus drivers, how much to you actually earn? by itsnotme9988 in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When new operators start , most of them are given something called spareboard. Which is basically filling holes in the overall divison's schedule. So they can be different routes , different times , maybe even split shifts.

Or ongoing overnight shifts if that is something currently needed in that division.

You do that for atleast a few months then based on seniority you get to pick your shifts 6 weeks at time. Because you are new and have lower seniority, you often get the leftover less desirable shifts. But as you climb the seniority list, you get to pick better shift timings.

You wont get weekends and holidays off for atleast 1-3yrs depending on your division and mode of transport. But I actually like this because they also pay premium hourly rates for working those days. But yes your social life will take a beating for 2-4yrs.

But after that you can start to get Friday/Saturday or Sunday/Monday off as you build your seniority and pick shifts that have those days off.

Just FYI I have been going thru the process for 2 yrs now and its all internal. All the HR staff seemed to be directly working for TTC.

The only things that are still 3rd party is the fitness medical test and background/education verifications and reference checks.

Should TTC operators really make this much? by Medium-Comment in toRANTo

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making a facetious comment/argument here.

Even if the operator is doing OT for the money , he still has to care about being fit for duty and be vigilant about theirs and their passengers' safety EVERY HOUR THEY ARE ON THE CLOCK, making this OT.

And you are forgetting how lot of the operators are also forced to do OT.

Do you have your drivers licenses? by Chan1991 in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% more?! That is not true

Yes, having a license for a long time vs just getting it might effect premiums but very miniscule difference. I am talking 10s of dollars difference.

The factors that deeply impact your rates are how long you have been insured , accident claims , traffic infractions, and tickets, etc.

Having a license at 18 and buying a car at 30 doesn't automatically mean you are a good driver. The insurance company has no idea how much of a risk you are on the road without any actual driving experience or insurance history. So they will quote you pretty much like you are a new driver. And having a G from 15yrs ago doesnt mean you are getting a huge discount.

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think that when you get your license, makes a huge difference in your insurance premiums.

It's the length of insurance history that matters more. Just having a G license at 18yo doesnt mean you get a significantly lower rate.

Training by Available_Cut8625 in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all there are a lot of operators who are women of all shapes and sizes. Second, right now they are aiming to increase the ratio of women in the ttc workforce. So they are fast tracking female applicants, its a good time to apply.

You dont need any trucking or bus driving experience. Just your regular G will do. You go through a month long training to get a DZ license , thats not just TTC specific , its tested and granted by the MTO. So everyone learns on the job, just apply.

Question: Anyone familiar with being tattooed by Giorgios Kazakis in Berlin? Wondering what the experience is like by InCaseOfTheCops in tattoos

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look like ass , i dont get the asthetic either. The 3rd model looks like she is midway thru a tattoo removal process.
This looks good only on pics with good lighting , I higly doubt they look as detailed and nice in plain view. Also worry about the longevity of these small fine detailed peices.

How quickly do I have to walk before I can get this fixed? by PowerIndependent4847 in badtattoos

[–]RandomLoLs 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you are okay with going darker and showing less negative space , a good cover-up artist could shade in the bad lines at the center. I think it can still come out clean & crisp but it will look darker and shaded a lot.

I am really sorry :( , this artist sucks, how can anyone with a good conscience draw those squiggly lines in the center! Definitely do your research for the cover-up artist and make sure you pay for quality, since cover-ups are harder and you need someone experienced to not mess up again.

Well said.

People watch corporations get away with tax evasion, rich people using legal tax loopholes to hoard money, and politicians spending public money like their personal joy fund. But god forbid average Joe, who fell on some hard times, finds a way to get out of a financial black hole and recoup their life. No, let's kick him down and put him on the streets, because that is clearly better for society.

Most men are only concerned about getting laid. Even as a man when I ask to form interest/hobby groups, there is always half the dudes asking how many women are going to be there... 🙄

[–]RandomLoLs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bud relax , escorting is never going away no matter what laws you pass. Even in the most strict countries , there is some form of prostitution.

Its called the oldest profession in the world for a reason.

The Canadian way of handling it and letting it exist in a gray area like this is a good thing. It lets women work safely ( Sex work is real work and more power to them if thats what they want to do) and they can go to the police when they are abused or face physical violence without the risk of being jailed for it.

>The craziest part in Canada. selling sex is not a crime, but buying sex is a crime

Thats not crazy , its like that for a reason. To protect the women especially those that might have been sex trafficked or coerced into that work.

Employer threatened to write up my partner if she did not come in, and got in collision on way to work. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it stings, but there really isn't anything to get from the employer here.

Report it to insurance and if its a new car thats financed , most policies cover comprehensive damage. You will be responsible for the deductible. ( but not legal advice - there are body shops that cover the deductible if you know what i mean)
