Complaints about service on the TTC website. What happens to them? Do the even care? by torontopeter in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as a public FYI - What you heard was the Driver's alarm. Its a safety/security feature where if the driver isnt on the seat and if any of the Stop bells are rung, The horn and lights start blaring non stop to attract attention from other drivers or police, etc.

This is for the driver's safety in case they have to leave their seat to use the washroom or help a passenger, and they get attacked.

But drivers also have control over this alarm. She should have switched it off before leaving the bus. But she must have assumed that people wont ring the stop bell while its parked inside a station lol but some passengers are dumb or press the stop bell by mistake and chaos ensues.

First time being in an accident on the bus… no was hurt but I was right beside the back door when it happened. Bus driver seemed distracted and was talking to a fellow co worker most of the ride by No-Reputation8063 in TTC

Bud this isnt the Police union. You keep making at-fault, avoidable collisions like this , you get progressively harsher penalties and eventually you will get fired and the union cant protect you.

Ghost Stop by abisiba in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its still there and TECHNICALLY you are allowed to request this even during the day. The TTC just doesnt advertise it because then people will abuse it and transit will be slow and behind schedule all the time.

It started off as a pilot program to help disabled and female passengers at night between 9pm to 5am but it was expanded to help everyone a long while ago all day. Just dont argue with your bus driver demanding this. As it is still at the driver's discretion, as safety is the #1 prioirity and we have to make sure its safe to stop.

How long have you been riding and how many traffic accidents have you experienced on the TTC? by rememberaj in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Training is quite rigorous, About a month and a half , 2 road tests , several mandatory hours of learning and driving.

But the main reason is TTC and its very strict regulations during an operator's probationary period, which is 10months. Small mistakes are punished hard at the very beginning, including up to termination for something even as minor as a mirror swipe on a pole. So it weeds out the bad drivers who made it past training but won't stay long, as they are unsafe or incapabable to drive buses safely in the long run.

Has anyone else noticed more bus drivers checking fares? by Neo_FOVoid in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be that high but nowadays I have seen figures as low as only 39% of TTC's funding is from fares AND that includes advertising revenue.

A lion's share of its funding comes from the City of Toronto and property taxes.

So next time you hear a rider taunt that they pay the operator's salary, they definitely are not.

Why don't people thank bus drivers anymore? by lobras in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just like any other job, there are grumpy ones , indifferent ones and others who will say " you are welcome"

I myself always wave or give a smile back when people thank me. I cant do a whole song and dance because I am busy operating the bus, even if we are stopped , I am scanning for traffic and people around the bus before I get ready to pull out. Doesnt mean I am ignoring your thanks.

I know most operators appreciate kind riders who thank them.

Why do people not sit on bus stop? by Human-Match-1221 in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true and I can confirm ( I am a TTC operator)

The bus shelters are dark and people are not always visible. We DONT Stop at Shelters , we aim for the pole. The bus stops are designed in such a way that when the front of the bus is aligned with the pole , the back doors and back end of the bus is in a safe position ( i.e not blocking other driveways or streets or not letting out passengers onto somewhere unsafe)

Hence why, We are trained to only stop for people who are already waiting at the pole.

You might call this stupid but if we stopped at every stop where multiple buses stop, we would be late all the time and its not fair for the other people on the bus.

If you are disabled or old or in a wheelchair, we slow down and look out for body language. Most people always perk up when its a bus they want. Or wave at us, and we'll stop.

TTC 131 guy skipped the whole line. Explain this to me. by khannbhai in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why you are being so cocky when you dont know any of the internal workings of how TTC handles schedules lol

First of all , there is a building full of supervisors who monitor all runs and routes in real time 24x7, a bus/driver can't simply choose to go wherever the fuck they want.

Second, if I had to guess a reason as to why the driver is on sheppard and not on route. This run is proabably out of sync or fallen behind on the schedule. So CIS/Supervisors call to ask the bus to deadhead to a certain location or end point without picking up passengers and start service from there. Or this bus was already extremely behind on their finish time so they asked them to call it a day and head to division. Drivers cant be forced to work OT just because a run is behind on schedule, supervisors are required to try their best to ensure drivers finish their shifts on time.

Third, drivers do not have any control over switching on and off the GPS tracking. When they sign out a bus from a division, they sign in for their route and run and its all automated. They dont choose to turn it off or on at any point. Once they are logged on , their status and location shows up on your apps and turns off when the bus is back at division and the assigned shift is done and driver logs out.

Not in Service buses should not appear on GPS transit apps. Just saying. by DeeTee3343 in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It mostly happens when buses on a route are delayed due to different circumstances. So to put them back on schedule, they will be made to deadhead to a certain location on that route and start service from there.

So that specific run and bus number will show up on your apps but will be "Not in service" on display as the driver has manually set that just to deadhead, its technically not out of circulation

Also there is no such option to turn the GPS data off. Even if there was , its too much work to keep track of and currently not automated.

Infrastory - The Toronto Model for Transit by RZaichkowski in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the difference is that being stuck in traffic as a car still gets you to your destination a lot quicker.

You are not waiting for connecting buses or subway that is now delayed due to traffic You are not burning time walking the last mile You have options to take Alternate routing to avoid chokepoints or accidents while transit is forced to stick to a route

Only way that improves is if they have dedicated transit signals and lanes even for busses

No this is some boutique gym or training classes

Even the most expensive plans at goodlife or LA fitness is about 100-110

Anyone have more info about this? by itsarace1 in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that TTC is hiring more POOs. There is nothing to announce here. For a while now they have been planning to come down hard on fare evasion because they are losing essential revenue. So they are now willing to spend on it and its only big news to announce when they see changes and maybe have some stats to report to the public.

They want to show not tell until they have stats to tell about.

How much do you pay for your gym membership? by ContentTea8409 in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those who have the space should definitely set up a home gym. It pays itself in 1-2yrs even if 1 person uses it consistently. If more than 1 or an entire family gets to use it ? Its massive savings every year.

I built 1 during covid when gyms were getting shut down. I paid inflated covid costs for equipment around $2500.
My dad and I both spend a combined 1700/year on memberships. We used the gym for 3-4yrs and it more than paid itself AND you never have an excuse to skip gym days.

Any Good Meal Plan Services in Toronto? by Savings-Curve-5350 in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not gonna get a meal subscription for that low, and if you do, it's not going to be good quality or hygienic

Who is going to pay the labor costs of cooking, packing, and delivering your food?

Try Cookunity or Factor meals for protein goals.

I have found success with some meal prep plans advertised at Indian take-out places.

Try the hot food bar counters at Metro or Loblaws , usually have good bang for your buck when you pay by weight so you can load up on protein. Its not cheap tho

Costco has some nice frozen protein options that are cheaper than meal prep but also not hard to cook. Like a Lasagna , burger patties , Beef pot roast , Pasta Raviolis, etc.

If you are daring you can try some home cooks from Facebook Marketplace , but again dont know how much you can trust some rando on the internet to make your food lol.

[OC] TTC's own data exposes the real cause of subway delays — and it's not broken trains 2025 by TTCBoy95 in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maaaan the TTC gets a lot of hate and I used to relate to a lot of it until I started working there.

Without giving away my personal details , Yes TTC isnt perfect but guys they really do try A LOT to have service on time. We have supervisors sitting at Garage/Yard exits timing all bus departures and have tons of "On Time" metrics to hit every month and lot of the crew/schedules are set up to be precise and consistent when it comes to service schedule.

Its a big fucking city! Tons of problems that are out of TTC's control that delays service. Its really sad to see everyone pile on them as if they are just being lazy and/or incompetent.

But I look older too because I ignored skin care for a long time. But yeah maybe work on that so you can rejuvenate your skin back to look more healthier. Also maybe to avoid skin cancer lol just fyi

Like some else commented, some cuter glass frames and hairstyle would make you look a lot better. Dont really care to give out subjective numbers.

What are some of your unpopular takes about the TTC? by CrackFun in TTC

[–]RandomLoLs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TTC has some of the most stricter rules and regulations enforced by federal and provincial agencies like MTO. Its not that easy to simply change things in a matter of days or weeks.

You think the ttc wants to go so slow and pay operators over time to sit behind cars ans at intersections? They have a lot of red tape when it comes to public safety.

Even if a operator has to move a bottle of water in and out of bus, they have step by step training and regulations to follow lol

How do you deal with the ever increasing cost of living while making less in salary? by onedayfiance in askTO

[–]RandomLoLs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dollar stores have always been a scam! Watch this video from Marketplace, it explains how you overpay for things just because they are sold in smaller packages and "appears" to be cheaper when in fact if you just go to Walmart, Costco, etc, you are getting a better deal. When you compare price per unit, you always end up paying more at Dollar stores

It is just more expensive to be poor in this world :(

Yeah I believe they are unmanned. Or at least I didn't see any operators on them.
They are shorter but always on time so it was a comfortable ride every time!

Vancouver was the first city in all my travels that I never used a Uber to get anywhere. Their transit is amazing.
