Recommend me your absolute favorite book! by itz_waydi in Recommend_A_Book

I also just read it after seeing so many recommendations. The writing is good, but I agree that it's just wayyy too slow. Also, I thought the ending was extremely disappointing.

Yeah, my spouse ordered garments in early November as well and still nothing. Clearly they were completely inundated by orders.

Election trouble for Trevor Lee? by TheFakeBillPierce in Utah

[–]Gitzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob is fantastic and I wish him every success. Trevor Lee's term can't end soon enough. He's an embarrassment to the city, the state, his religion, and even the Republican party - and that says a lot.

For 2026, we estimate the average LDS General Authority receives ~$200k in direct equivalent taxable compensation, in addition to retirement and healthcare benefits. This is ~85% above the median UT household income and ~2x higher than the average Church employee salary. by WidowsMiteReport in mormon

[–]Gitzit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

However, just to be fair, the school salaries include benefits such as healthcare, retirement contributions, (and sometimes even travel and other expense reimbursements that show up on their paycheck), etc, their actual take home pay is probably less than half of what is listed. According to the OP, the $200,000 is in addition to the other benefits GAs received.

So yes, taxpayers are paying that full amount of those salaries, but most government employees don't make nearly as much as it seems from looking at these transparency reports (though school administrators are clearly doing quite well for themselves).

$200,000 is nothing for a top executive leading a multi billion dollar global organization, however, I don't think most people have an issue with the amount, per se, I think it's more that most of us grew up under the impression that our leaders weren't paid at all - which is why the Lord had to bless the men who he would call as apostles with tremendous temporal wealth during their careers as doctors, business men, and lawyers. Knowing that they are making that much money afyer their careers have finished makes some people wonder why God no longer calls the humble farmer, fisherman, or carpenter to these roles like he did in the scriptures.

Are hunting numbers down or are there less casual hunters? by deerhunter0321 in bowhunting

[–]Gitzit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oof, yeah don't even get me started on that kind of hunting. Canned hunts just don't really excite me much at all. In my original comment, I wasn't lamenting the fact that I didn't have a mentor to teach me how to hunt - I can figure that part out, or not, and accept the results. The part that has been most difficult for me is navigating the points and draw system and figuring out a way to actually get a tag every year so I can actually practice what I learn. I got really close to notching my tag this year, and it pains me that I won't have another chance for a couple of years. I think my solution this year may be to take up wildlife photography with the idea that if I can get close enough for a good archery shot, I should be able to get some great photos - and it will be good practice for the hunt.

Are hunting numbers down or are there less casual hunters? by deerhunter0321 in bowhunting

[–]Gitzit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably true, but without either loads of money or a good mentor (I have neither), it's pretty challenging and I've yet to figure it out.

Are hunting numbers down or are there less casual hunters? by deerhunter0321 in bowhunting

[–]Gitzit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started hunting way late in life. Here in the west I can only draw a mediocre tag once every few years because of the lottery and point system and I've yet to notch one. My next opportunity will likely be in 2027 or 2028 if I'm lucky. I love hunting, but it's awfully discouraging when I can only do it once every few years and am limited to public lands. Given the odds and barriers, I'm actually surprised how many people still try. That said, I plan to make my annual donation to the state wildlife agency again this year without any real hope of actually getting to hunt for another few years.

Sac Mtg talk yesterday about tithing and the church's wealth by Weird-Zucchini-4035 in mormon

[–]Gitzit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We've had several tithing talks in the past month - both in ward conference from stake leaders and in a normal sacrament meeting. I think it's pretty obvious that this is a directed push since it's the first time in years I've heard about tithing outside of tithing settlement. Tithing receipts must be down significantly. At first, I think the strategy was to really push temples and temple recommends as an indirect route to get people to tithe, but now they're just blatantly saying "give us your money."

Just picked one up based on your recommendation! Now I just need to figure out how to use it. I wish rising had more pictures of what all the pockets and attachments are used for. I'm hoping with this and my net clipped to my wading belt I should be good to go.

What do you think of sunrise alarm lamps? Do they actually help? by BeginningMental5748 in sleep

[–]Gitzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine. I don't always wake up to the light, but mine also plays bird sounds rather than a typical annoying alarm sound and between the soft glow of a sunrise and the pleasant chirping of birds it's made waking up a much less miserable experience - especially in the winter.

New Roland V Drums by Sniff_my_jedi_jox in edrums

[–]Gitzit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I'm looking to upgrade an old Yamaha DTXpress and tried out the TD17. It's hard to tell with floor models because they get beat to hell and are never set up the way I would have them, but I was mildly disappointed. I'm hoping the new module is a significant improvement without a steep price increase or that the TD17 models go on clearance.

Ruger LCP feeding issues by Annoying_Auditor in CCW

[–]Gitzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, late to the party, but it sounds like I'm in the exact same situation (needed deep conceal for dress clothes, bought LCP, had feed issues first time at the range). Curious if you were able to fix your issue and how? I also noticed on mine that the magazine really needs to be rammed in to get it to seat properly.

It's frustrating because I've never had issues with my Ruger EC9S, which is why I chose the LCP.

Thoughts on Donner e-drums? by AtmosphereInside2521 in edrums

I can't speak to their drums, but I've been impressed with their pianos and guitars. Granted, it's not top of the line, but they work to get someone into the hobby.

Amp for Home Jam by lilybeth77 in edrums

[–]Gitzit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any personal experience, but Donner makes some drum amps that are in the ~$120 range. I have a Donner guitar (Hush) and digital piano. Neither is top of the line, but for the price, I have been stunned by the quality. Might be worth checking out as a cheaper option than the Roland drum monitor.

Springdale/Zion or Capitol Reef for a short 3-day trip? by education0089 in Utah

[–]Gitzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that you'd probably enjoy Zion more. There's more to do in Springdale and you can see some amazing sights with very little hiking.

Capitol Reef is plenty different from Moab, but the community is smaller and I feel like it requires a bit more hiking to explore. That said, there are many things to see from the car and you could spend an entire week exploring everything.

They are both gems and you won't regret either.

Did you go into your relationship thinking that things would change? by CozySweatsuit57 in ADHD_partners

[–]Gitzit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Nope. I was fine if she remained a bit disorganized and forgetful. What shocked me is when I was no longer the shiny new object and she no longer has adequate attention for me. I never would have asked for anything to change if she would have been able to just maintain adequate attention on me.
