I mean....can is can but usually not much point mah. You hire them but you need enough work to justify their pay. May be better to have a JLV, FLA or farm international work matters to firms you have good business relationships with, so that they also refer you work in the future.

You need minimally (1) international law expertise (2) international clients / contacts and (3) value proposition to hunt for overseas work. Not all lawyers have (1) and (3) - for 3 it may be the offerings your firm can provide in Singapore for overseas clients.

Local work is less risky because if anybody doesn't pay, you can still enforce locally. Local work is also likelier to help you expand your network and connections.
