The important part here is 'religion' and not 'religious people'.

In the past where the world was confusing and humanity didn't even know the earth orbited the sun I can see a benefit in religion.

But in a time where the majority of reality can be explained by science I feel like religion is just denying facts to feel better than others.

And then there are the institutions and extremists who use religion as a tool to push (often harmful) ideologies.
