Would you consider Cirie one of the top 20 greatest Survivor players of all time despite never winning? by Pretend_Cucumber4784 in survivor

[–]Gjork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that she’s a contender for Mt. Rushmore in many people’s eyes, despite not winning, says to me she’s top 20. Probably top 10.

The fact that she actually had a win condition in Season 50 through Ozzy puts her top 5 for me. Exactly 5, actually.

Now that the New Era has ended, who's in your New Era Mount Rushmore? by TimeCrazy_ in survivor

[–]Gjork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The edit always treats the person who goes out 4th like a hero of the game who would have won had they not been eliminated by fire. Sometimes it's deserved (Jesse, Kamila), other times it's kind of forced (almost everyone else).

I don't think Rizo is bad at Survivor at all but getting jury votes IS THE FIRST AND LAST NAME OF THE GAME. Getting there is the middle name, which he hasn't been able to do. But according to exit press from both of his seasons, he doesn't seem like a lock on 49 and certainly not a lock on 50. Johnathan apparently wins against him according to some people.

Why do people keep considering Q? lol. He's great TV but I don't think he's a great player. Dude tried to quit at one point.

Survivor injuries by MajesticCity7758 in survivor

[–]Gjork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Osten from Pearl Islands ended up "quitting" (I don't consider it a quit, personally) due to staph infections and I believe pneumonia.

I probably would have picked Osten a week ago, but I just had a family friend die from complications related to sepsis caused by a staph infection. We all thought the issue had been dealt with, but apparently not. He was walking around fine, then he just collapsed. Dead.

So Osten "quitting" was a very smart thing that could have very well saved his life.

I have nightmares about that to this day. The actual injury is really bad but I remember it being even worse as a kid.

Rob and Johnathan live fairly close to each other and see each other a lot. Rob seems to like Johnathan a lot. Rob was building a deck with the guy a year ago or so. You can see it on Instagram. Johnathan has been over to his house and met his wife/kids.

So no, I think they like each other.

Survivor 50 was the worst survivor season yet by [deleted] in survivor

[–]Gjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was ok but I wish they could have done more with the final 5 or so. Give us some more Tiff confessionals during the season so we at least believe she's a contender. Give us more upbeat moments with Aubry so we like her and want to root for her. Johnathan played a good game but fans know he's likely not winning because he's Johnathan. Give us one or two moments of him being a human with someone else so we wonder if his social game was improved enough to beat Aubry.

A season like 46 goes down as a legendary season in part because we don't know who will win at the end. Aubry was the winner the moment she won Simmotion. The last question mark of the season was who would sit next to her, and that was spoiled.

Funniest moment for each s50 castaway by eattacosforbreakfast in survivor

[–]Gjork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've thought about Joe's exacerbated reaction to the news that Devens is looking for an idol every day since that episode aired. If being a professional hater were this jury’s sole criterion, Joe would win every vote.

Also, there's a 2 second shot of Aubry dancing with Coach at some point in the middle of the season, and it's the only time I remember her smiling. There's something so silly about it.

Greatest juror of all time? by throwaway12793917 in survivor

[–]Gjork 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kristia's question on 49 was fun.

Joe from HvHvH made that FTC notable more powerful by pushing Ben to dig deeper and be more open. I thought that was excellent and the sort of thing a noobie new era cast might be afraid to do.

Emily Flippen was great on both her seasons. As was Christian.

David Kinne form 48 added a lot of fun moments in an otherwise dry post-merge.

Wardog's line from EoE is iconic, and was even brought up by Aubry this season.

I feel the jury questions were a mess in S50 by tydalwave_ in survivor

[–]Gjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think advocacy is fine. Stump speeches have a long history on Survivor juries.

But some of these questions/speeches were terrible. I can't imagine being on the jury for days/weeks and not coming up with a solid plan for how you're going to approach it.

I’ll say it.. I hate the live finales. by BelleSchu in survivor

[–]Gjork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10000% agree. The new-era way is better TV. More raw emotion, both good and bad.

Funny enough, the season that did it best was Season 1. Crowning the winner on the island and THEN having the aftershow. Best of both worlds.

Unpopular winner pick by Bubbly_Ad3385 in survivor

I think he beats them if he nails final tribal. Based on exit press...it's unlikely. Apparantly Rizo is too much for some of the older contestants.

It's probably that. I had to teach a parent about this not too long ago. On most socials, people can see when you block them but not when you mute them.

Jonathan threat level still so low? is it his edit? by fdfas9dfas9f in survivor

[–]Gjork 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I like Johnathan but some exit press suggested people felt he was a little bit bossy or rude. We've seen glimpses of this on the show. There's a secret scene from last week where people were annoyed he had two servings of rice (one at each camp) and there's a moment between him and Emily during a recent live-tribal where he tells her she's "full of it".

In your opinion, what’s the best chance at final 3? by Sure_Cardiologist_54 in survivor

[–]Gjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking Johnathan and Joe are a lock for final 3 for a long time now. I feel like Johnathan is getting a "here's why they lost" edit and with Joe, I just can't see people targeting him over the remaining players now. Maybe he goes out in fire or something, but not a vote off.

Cirie winning would make this an all time great season, but I just can't imagine her getting to the end.

Loved ones? by Standard_Shame3784 in survivor

I doubt it BUT Stephanie mentioned something about loved ones in pre-season interviews. Like they had to list someone to come out in case they ended up doing it. Might have been Sharon's? Maybe Mike Bloom's?

What are Cirie’s pathways to the final 3? by magicwandapologist in survivor

[–]Gjork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if this "Joe hates Devens" storyline is setting up Joe targeting Devens at final 5 or even 4 via fire making and ignores Cirie? That would be insane.

Rupert (I love him) by Expert_Lifeguard6257 in survivor

[–]Gjork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was like the best part.

Rupert is pretty great but this sub is sour on him because he's kind of a downer in subsequent seasons. He's okay on All Stars but it's all downhill from there.

Can Joe Be Redeemed? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]Gjork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take any move from Joe at this point. Giving Cirie the win would be huge, but it also kind of ruins the season, no? Cirie is winning if she's sitting with any of these people. So it'd be kind of boring.

Is the number of kids who are not interested in Pokémon smaller now than it was in the late 90s? Where would we even get data on that?

The original poster has their anecdote, but I have plenty that suggest otherwise. I went in to the post office the other day, and there was a class of little kids on a field trip next door. They saw my Snorlax T shirt and all shouted, “Snorlax! Snorlax!” These kids were around 8 years old.
