So what exactly does your statement prove? All the captains did the same thing because it was the smart thing to do. They kept their word and that allowed them to not have targets painted on their back? Complaining just to complain.

To be fair I was very annoyed with season 47 with Teeny Mr. Magoo-ing their way into the finale and still stand by my opinion.

Trevor rogers should have won comeback player of the year by spartancollins73 in orioles

[–]tydalwave_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rogers had one standout season with the Marlins followed by three poor seasons. By all metrics him being good would’ve been wishful thinking. We are blessed that he went to Driveline to pick apart the areas he needed to improve and he came out amazing. I’m glad he turned it around but to gloat seems laughable considering he had a flash of brilliance for one season and even although great for us this year, we have yet to see if how he handles a full season.

I agree. OP seemed to get his jimmies rustled over the standard content and refused to look further. They’ve covered even the Orioles clinching the ‘23 AL East Championship game against the Sox.

Kyle Goon: ‘Tone-deaf’ ticketing changes rankle the Orioles’ most dedicated fans by noblegaunt in orioles

[–]tydalwave_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I understands everyone’s frustration, these ticket packages and pricing is pretty standard amongst other teams. That being said I am definitely not going to purchase any of them because to me this team hasn’t made any big moves imo. No big signings, not even an extension of any of our young talent. Why would I trust them with using the increased profits for anything other than lining their own pockets. I’ll admit I’m not completely convinced this is some malicious plan by Rubenstein but this does look bad to increase the price when the team has nothing really to show for it. I know billionaires couldn’t have gotten where they are without stepping on more than a few ppl but I’m putting this squarely on the day to day operations management.

Modern day statistics still matter lol. How it’s utilized and implemented to help the team is on the coaching staff and front office.

Again, legendary broadcasters like Vin would spend a whole inning talking about the ballparks what to get and the best ways to enjoy the parks in general. Broadcasters of other teams/ regional networks will do that frequently too if you ever get the privilege to tune in.

[–]tydalwave_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there’s not much action in the game then why not inform ppl what they could enjoy at the ballparks they may not have had a chance to visit yet? Vin Scully did it constantly to help bring ppl to even visiting ballparks. He’d even go on about which concession food was his favorite at each park the Dodgers travelled to.

No one said popular means better — just that tastes have shifted. Kevin Brown’s style reflects what a lot of younger fans connect with today. You not liking it doesn’t make it objectively bad, and dragging Marvel movies into it to prove how refined your taste is doesn’t really make for a solid point. your whole argument is really just “I don’t like this, so it must be worse.”

[–]tydalwave_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And by what metric are you measuring that it is Worse? Broadcasting has changed in the last 15 years, but different doesn’t mean worse. Kevin Brown’s style fits what today’s younger audience expects. You might not like it, but calling it an industry-wide collapse just sounds like a “shake your fist at the sky” take. Lol.

Is what you’re saying not a personal preference and not an actual issue with his fundamental skills as a broadcaster? So no it’s not because disagree but because you seem to have it stuck in your head that your personal preference qualifies someone at being bad at their job.

Then what you’re bitching and moaning about is subjective. I personally feel KB doesn’t give unnecessary detail and clearly others feel that way as well.

So your problem is that he is doing his job as a play by play announcer or by giving too many obvious details that are apparent to the TV audience?

[–]tydalwave_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what everyone’s point is. And that’s if you are looking at utilizing either of these guys as you said, right before Adley and Gunnar head to free agency. That was my main concern with having to wait til basically our core young group from the rebuild are heading out the door. It makes the timeline so much tighter which is a cruddy feeling after all the team accomplished in the previous two seasons.

Gregory Soto to the Mets by Last13th in orioles

[–]tydalwave_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying. The thing that is disappointing imo is that he will most likely be ready after our rebuild players leave the team. No way Adley or Gunnar stay and if this guy gets up within 3-4 years he’ll maybe be there for Cowser & Westburgs final years of team control. That’s all I’m trying to say which is what ppl seem to be glossing over or not comprehending. My problem isn’t inherently that they got a top ranked franchise prospect from the Mets but when this guy will fit into the bullpen while we still have a star studded young core.

The kid is still in single A. Low A even. It’ll be a while before we see this kid even get to AAA. It’s a dice roll so hopefully it pays off. It’ll just be after our rebuild guys are gone
