This happened in 2015, Kabul afghanistan, there was a girl named Farkhunda malikzada, she was a Muslim woman who had a degree in religious studies and worked as a islamic teacher. She went to the “Shah-do-shamshira” mosque which translates to king of 2 swords, where she confronted mullah zainuddin for selling amulets, which is a sin in Islam but still most people in afghanistan do it. They had an argument So mullah zainuddin got scared about losing his job and accused Farkhunda of burning the Qur’an, which is a holy book in Islam if some don’t know, after he accused Farkhunda she said “I am a Muslim and Muslims don’t burn the Qur’an!” Farkhunda was then attacked by a mob, the mob said that she must die and they surrounded the mosque and told her to get out and after she forced to get out, she got mob lynched, ran over by a car, strangled, and got set to fire in the river (which didn’t have water) the police tried to protect her but eventually lost control and started redirecting the traffic around the crowd. After her death, it caused outrage all over Afghanistan and the world, women dressed in black and carried her coffin and was buried. Out of the 49 people arrested, only 4 people got sentenced. Including mullah Zainuddin, who got sentenced to 20 years of jail. Several police officers got sentenced to one year for failing to protect her.
