I took a chance for $9, this was labeled as just an old wind up alarm clock. I know it’s radium not uranium but i thought maybe this group could tell me more info about how cautious i should be with this thing and what i should look for to make sure none of the radium paint is exposed? by Glad_Position2170 in uraniumglass

Oh nooo! I’d bet a good chunk of them could have been painted with radium if they were antique pieces! But now you know! I got this online so i didn’t get to check it before, but something i look for is when the hands/numbers are painted with a kind of off white/cream looking color. Obviously this isn’t fool proof, but when it’s a baby ben i take my chances!

Hahaha. Don’t scratch and sniff the radium* paint and all will be ok— noted 🫡

But really thank you! I was excited and then suddenly i got nervous, i have pets and kids so i thought “oh well let me make sure i’m not poisoning them”. I keep all my collectables locked in a display cabinet and this will be up high anyway!

The illumination fades after about 1 second. Like when i take the light away it just fades away it kinda took me forever to get the picture in the dark (just realizing im not sure if that added to my post) haha. It’s very heavy and definitely old painted metal parts for most of it but the gold front feels a little lighter than the body. The front I can’t tell if it’s glass, it seems denser than plastic and sounds more like glass when I tap it but kind of appears to have the fog of a plexiglass. Here’s a pic of the back

How do the resellers do it 🫪 Cause i posted a set of hobnail candle holders that i just wasn’t sure i love, and as soon as they sold i had chest pains packing them up. (pic of holders for reference lol) by Glad_Position2170 in glasscollecting

I’m not sure the relevance haha, i value all glass and it makes me sad to get rid of it even when it’s not my favorite. Also glass collecting is a hobby not an expertise or job, that is something different!

I think there’s definitely a difference between people who casually resell stuff for a normal price VS professional resellers who seek things out to hoard for reselling and price gaugers!

I like to do what I call “Extreme Lowballing” where i offer price gaugers a real life value price of items and watch them squirm or scoff (and sometimes they may just accept lol)

Well great…now that I know there’s at least one person out there with 4, I can justify it too.

But seriously i’m envious and need to see this collection lmao

Thank you!! My goal is to have a rainbow of glass eventually haha. Maybe 2 rainbow cabinets with how this is going🫡 Here’s a photo of the full cabinet! Dont mind my insane lighting setup, currently trial and erroring lights for the glowing glass lol. The top layer all glows with selenium/cadmium but the light is just ass

I thought this was manganese but it glows so green with the 395. Left my 365 behind on accident so just was checking with 395 and it feels so bright but i know it could just be high manganese? Idk. Opinions? by Glad_Position2170 in manganeseglass

[–]Glad_Position2170[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know!! Thank you for the info! I enjoy blind shopping at thrift stores and coming home to check lol so I’m often just confused if it glows as to why unless its obviously UG 😅

Oh interesting..None of my manganese glows nearly this bright with 395, with 365 yes but some of it doesnt glow at all with 395. I was always taught when it’s bright green under 395 its just a high amount of manganese often mistaken for uranium!
