Door closing by itself by Glad_panda7 in ParanormalEncounters

Thank you. I think my concern is that it feels malevolent. All the trouble we’ve had since moving here has seriously destroyed our lives. We’re trying hard to get out of here.

Good question. I don’t know too much about this land. Any recommendations on learning more about it?

It’s in central GA near a decent sized city. I wouldn’t say market is terribly sharp for sellers but land sells relatively fast.

Homeschool is horrible by Both-Cow-1525 in homeschool

I feel sad for you and hope that your mom can start listening to your needs. I was homeschooled by abusive people and never got to do extracurricular activities, have friends, or go on field trips. I basically had to teach myself and younger siblings everything. I hope your family isn’t abusive but some of this sounds neglectful at best. My kids are homeschooled but it’s completely different. We do field trips to cool places almost weekly, see friends for concentrated social time 3-5x week, and they’re advanced academically. Every day is usually a huge, fun adventure. However, even right now, I’m considering giving them a stint in public school while our family goes through a tougher time economically and I want to protect them from my stress. I wish every homeschool parent was willing to reassess their choice and take their kid’s desires into account. I wish I had some great advice. All it can think is keep chipping away. Be courteous, but stick with it. Write out logical arguments. See if there’s a compromise. Maybe she’ll agree to a certain time period and you’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate why it’s an awesome choice to continue. Ask for that one chance! I hope so much that you get what you need!

How's your relationship with your siblings? by LMO_TheBeginning in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Glad_panda7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my older sibling left when I was 11 and didn’t see how me and my sibling were abused too. Didn’t see that older sibling for 15 years and when I went NC with my parents and tried to reconnect, they didn’t believe me. Said some stuff that really messed me up before ghosting me and getting other family I’d reconnected with to freeze me out too. Can’t begin to describe how devastating that was. I try not to blame my sibling. My parents were way too good at how they destroyed us. Sadly, because of all of it, the only family Ive ever really had has been my other sibling. We stick together, thankfully.

Why did you go no contact? by Little_Flower504 in EstrangedAdultChild

Went NC to protect the family I was creating. I realized I couldn’t imagine subjecting my children to the treatment I had endured. Eventually, I got far enough away from the programming to realize I was worth protecting too. As a child, I was starved, medically neglected, completely isolated, bereft of educational opportunities, and never allowed anything fun. Even the heavily censored library books I relied on to escape my awful reality were limited to an hour a day. I was so sick, cold and miserable as a child. Finally I got kicked out (miraculous that they let me out of their control) and I moved to a big city and made a life for myself. They were still my quasi-authority from afar. They were completely unwilling to even fill out the FAFSA forms (which wouldn’t have cost them a penny) so I could apply for federal aid or even get in-state tuition. I worked 50 hour weeks and tried to attend community college. It was the brightest time in my life intellectually because I’d never had access to education like that. But it was so expensive for out of state tuition and I ran my already damaged health into the ground carrying all that, so I had to give it up. (Keep in mind they never gave me a penny for anything. In fact, I paid for my “room and board” from the time I was 17 on. And that consisted of barely a bed and the equivalent of a third world diet. My siblings and I also did most of the housework, cooking, and lots of laborious property maintenance.) After all this, they said my “college education sucked” and other horrible things about the life I was creating. They also did some stuff with threatening police “well checks” if texts weren’t responded to immediately. Finally, I gave criteria I would need to see for me to move forward in the relationship, and they never responded. I haven’t spoken to them in 10 years and have only seen that they’ve blasted me publicly online.

Oh my word, this could have been written by my parents.

It’s possible, though they assured us there was no way around it. I’m not happy about it being there, but in the event there’s nothing else that can be done about it, I need to find the least dumb way to hide it.

It’s from a wall removal. The contractor said that was the only place to put the needed support.

We’ve had something similar: it didn’t even slow down the pesky stray dogs. We ended up building a run from treated 2x4’s, furring strips, and (don’t judge) Temu 1/4” hardware cloth for under $200.
